Went last night for New Years eve. 6pm reservation in the bar. We were seated at a low top table which we requested in a good location. We had excellent martinis and the seafood board app. which was delish ! The largest shrimp we have ever eaten. We split a burrata salad that was excellent and for the main course a dry aged tomahawk steak for 2 that came with potatoes and brussels . One of the best meals we have had anywhere. The service was excellent and by 7:30 the place was packed. The NewYears eve menu is very pricey but we very much enjoyed and would do again. We also each had a glass of chianti and took home cheesecake for dessert. Thanks Carl and Zach !

I’m going to be honest. I really wanted to dislike my meal at Giovanni’s because they certainly think a lot of themselves. I had to confirm my reservation by email (through Open Table), text, AND a phone call. How many times do I need to confirm a reservation??? Anyway, I was glad to see they dropped their pretentious dress code of the past, even though we figured that out after my husband wore a suit. We certainly didn’t feel overdressed though. The ambiance is upscale. ANYWAY, I have to admit that the food was spectacular. The cauliflower salad special was delicious , and they split it for us, giving us both a huge portion. Because we had a gift card, we splurged a bit, and my husband ordered the $65(!!!) short ribs. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they might have been worth the price. The beef was amazingly tender, and it was covered in flavorful vegetables atop delectable potatoes. My veal cannelloni was rich and comfort-foody. I took half of it home. And then we ordered dessert. The blondie…OMG. Caramel date sauce? Best dessert I’ve had in a long time. To recap, I went in annoyed and skeptical. I left chagrined and impressed. And STUFFED. It’s a special occasion place (for my wallet, anyway), but I would go back, if only for the short rib and blondie.

The food at this very expensive northern Italian restaurant hidden in an outdoor shopping strip with an inconspicuous black and white sign identifying it was there, was average at best. The main dining room of white linen had a huge wine rack across one entire wall. Having not much of an appetite, I tried just the in-bone veal parmigiana (I would have preferred boneless), with a glass of sweet wine that was also just average. I didn't care for how the veal was prepared...topped with spaghetti and sauce, then mozzarella on top of that. The texture and the taste were, again, just okay. For dessert, two cheesecake squares with a raspberry gelato were, yet again, okay. At over $100 for just me, I would have to say this place is not good enough to recommend.

Made a reservation for our 34th wedding anniversary. Arrived 15 minutes early and the hostess stated the table wsa not ready so we went to the bar for a drink. Ordered a Grey Goose Martini with blue cheese olives, the olives tasted bad. It was either bad cheese or cheap olives. The bartender Joe, asked if we were eating in the bar and we stated we had a reservation and were waiting for a table. After 30 minutes no one came for use I went over and asked if the table was ready. We wanted to transfer the bar tab to the dinner tab and Joe said he was too busy to do that. Not good. When we were led to our table it was stuffed in the corner behind a table for 4, so tight that I could not get the table without having to ask the person to move in there chair. We were not happy about the set up and asked for another table. The owner said there is not one available. Very disappointed the at a restaurant of this caliber and distinction that they would stuff a patron in the corner. We decide to leave rather than wait...the owner didn't care. We went to Hyde Park and had a great meal. This is the last time we will go to Giovanni's.

Lobster tail was so overcooked it was impossible to eat. Table was not ready when we arrived. Had to wait 35 minutes extra. Place just wasn't up to par. Spent $300.00 including tip. Truly wasn't worth it. Will not go back.

The atmosphere was beautiful, I Hadn't been there in about 3 years. My meal was just average. The wedge salad was swimming in the dressing like restaurants used to do in the 70s, My Cioppino was drowning in a thick creamy sauce which didn't allow the seafood to be enjoyed. Thick and creamy in a bad way. Really disappointed in their preparation of my meal. Not the meal I was expecting at all. My husband enjoyed his Pappardelle very much. So disappointed

We were seeking a true Italian experience and had high hopes. Unfortunately this was not it. First, a computerized wine list that was difficult to maneuver and out of date. We ordered a bottle of Italian wine (“only 3 left!) that came with a vintage 3 years later than listed, and our waiter never said a word as he tried to serve it to us. A discussion with the maître d’ ensued. Second, our first courses were ok but overwhelmingly large and we should have stopped there. Finally, the real disappointment was veal parmesan. How can you screw that up? The “capellini” listed on the dish was placed on top of the veal chop and then covered with sauce and cheese, thus ruining the veal entirely. Even though this is actually an Italian-American dish, this preparation is contrary to any conception of Italian cuisine. Italians don’t eat pasta and meat in the same forkful, chef, and neither should anyone else.

We used to go here all the time. Glad we have not gone recently because the experience was mixed. Used to be it was always fantastic but this time was. It the case. Had the Steak Tartare that is now done differently but very good. No more raw egg. They use a baked egg instead. I had the Halibut, which was very good. It was supposed to be in a horseradish crust. Every second or third bite, I could taste the horseradish. The remainder of the time, I could not. My wife had the Dover Sole that was essentially tasteless. It is a very mild fish but it had no taste. Seemed to lack any flair for spices. Not sure we will go back. Their prices are high and understandably so, but there are other restaurants on the East Side that offer the same fare with a little more quality. Seems like they are resting on their reputation.

I have heard about this place for many years. My wife and I are of Italian descent and have frequented Italian restaurants all over America in our travels. This is the most over rated and over priced Italian restaurant we have been to. I ordered the bone in veal Parmesan for $48.00 a la carte. I have never had veal Parmesan where they chop up angel hair pasta in little pieces and put it on the veal and melt the cheese over it. If you are visiting Cleveland please go to Little Italy where you can visit great family owned restaurants and bakeries, eat better food for half the cost.

I’ll relay the facts and let readers draw their own conclusions about whether this is where they want to spend their money: We were driving from Chicago to Cleveland enroute to NYC. At 730 pm, we booked a table at Giovanni’s for 930 pm, long before the published closing time of 11 pm. At 929 pm, the restaurant texted that “Your table is ready. Please check in now at Giovanni’s restaurant.” At 930, I texted back “Will be there in 5 minutes.” At 930, the restaurant texted me back: “Great! We’ll see you shortly.” After desperately searching for the restaurant, which is lodged in the back of a nondescript office building with no obvious entrance, we were warmly greeted by two young ladies at the front desk, and promptly seated at 944 pm. One minute later, they both returned to the table to advise that the kitchen had closed and food was no longer an option (in any of their rooms). They confirmed to me that they had texted me just 14 minutes earlier and confirmed our reservation, but could not explain the sudden closure of the kitchen (there were dozens of patrons still eating at the tables). I asked if the kitchen could not stay open for another ten minutes, but was flatly reminded that the kitchen had closed. One minute later, a large man with poor English came to confirm that the kitchen had indeed closed “an hour ago.” No apology was ever offered. We did not bother to debate the matter, but we wondered why then the enthusiastic text confirmation at 930 of our imminent seating, whether the front desk had ever advised the kitchen that Giovanni’s had a 930 reservation to honor, and whether the kitchen had ever advised the front desk that, despite the reservation confirmed at 730 pm and reconfirmed at 930 pm, they were cutting out early and would not honor the 930 reservation? And why was that not communicated to us until after we were seated in the dining room for our 930 reservation? I think it’s fair to say that Giovanni’s customer service on this occasion was terrible, unprofessional, rude and unkind. In short, a real s-show. I’ll happily spend my money in a more hospitable establishment, with more kind hosts. Who needs this kind of treatment?

We had a lovely anniversary dinner celebration with our friends on the patio. Service was perfect and food and wine excellent. We shared a salad of roasted cauliflower with Marcona almonds and greens and followed it with orders of the seared halibut and pistachio crusted sea scallops. Both were very nice. Our friends felt the beef tartar served on a roasted bone with marrow was nicely prepared. It was a very special evening and spacing on the patio made us feel comfortable.

The food was outstanding: Steak tartar with bone marrow , a REAL Dover sole, scorched octopus and linguine. The wine list is HUGE.....but Giovanni will assist you if you’re unsure what to choose. The restaurant is pricey but well worth it for a spoil.

We had dinner there the Saturday before Father's Day. Because of COVID, we ate on the patio and servers were wearing masks and tables were properly distanced. The food was, as always, fabulous. A very well-dressed man who seemed to know a lot of people, joined the table next to us to visit. He was not wearing a mask. As he was leaving, he stopped by our table and leaned in to ask us about our dinner. In normal times, this would have been fine. But his lack of a mask ruined everything the restaurant had been doing and had promised its patrons. I wrote about this on the restaurant's website but have received no response. Very disappointed.

The food was excellent and the service good except for a few glitches. We had to ask for rolls and butter when it was brought to the other tables. I had to chase the waitress to get a fork for my wife to eat her dinner. It was annoying to see the owner or maître "d running around an kissing all the "regulars" when he didn't even ask how are meals were or if we needed anything. Very expensive but the food was well prepared and well presented. OK for once in a while.

We booked the glass room at Giovanni's for a special night out, and wow, did it deliver! Our waiter, Nick, was the star of the show. Super friendly and on top of everything, making us feel really special. Now, let’s talk about the food - it was amazing! The Châteaubriand and Steak Tartare were next-level good. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I had something that tasty. It’s like the chefs here sprinkle some kind of magic on everything. In short, our evening at Giovanni's was epic. Great vibes, fantastic food, and service that made us feel like VIPs. Big thanks to Nick and everyone at Giovanni's for a memorable night. We’ll definitely be back for more!
