Recommended to us by the owner of the guesthouse where we were staying for a couple of nights and less than 15 minutes walk away. It is not in the centre of town but is well worth Thea detour. Relatively recently opened under the current management, The Fishmongers is something between a pub and a restaurant The building and decor are pub-like but the food is absolutely excellent (and it’s worth mentioning that two weeks before we were eating at the Michelin-starred). Fish House restaurant on Cornwall’s Fistral Beach).
On our first visit ( a Thursday) we were disconcerted at being given a ‘Steak Night’ menu but were reassured to find an imaginative fish menu on the reverse. We decided to share a fish platter (the most expensive item on the menu at £69). It really was on a par with what we’ve had at Rick Stein’s in Padstow although without lobster. The items were sourced from three local suppliers (one of which runs the place). As we were celebrating, we chose the (single) champagne on the menu.
We were sufficiently impressed to return the next night (having failed to get a short-notice booking at the one other place we wanted to try). The quality was equally good. On this occasion I had deep fried cod and chips (from a choice of three fish) and my wife ordered a selection of the “nibbles” plates (pretty substantial portions too). I also had a few pints of one of the two (local) beers on hand pump while she went with G+T.
Other things worth noting include the great tasting bread (so often an afterthought in restaurants), a very hardworking and on the ball chef and kitchen team (our second night table had a view of them at work) and friendly, attentive waiting staff.
Overall, a very impressive establishment with real potential to develop into something special

Recommende to try this restaurant and found it excellent. Its only been open 6 months or so but the staff were very attentive and the found was excellent. We had the smoked fish platter and crevettes to start followed by the Hake with curried chick peas and a chicken with mushrooms and gnocchi which was also excellent.
We were offered lobster 1/2 at £12 to add to our dish which seemed very reasonable.
Other couples had the seafood platters to share and all seemed very happy.
The outside is an old converted pub. Would recommend you go.

Great little find! All staff were so friendly and welcoming. They were attentive without being over the top and could answer our queries with ease.
We had a crab starter and the extra 1/2 lobster for £12 which was absolutely delicious !
We then had salmon and the loin of halibut chickpea curry. The latter dish was gorgeous! Compliments to the chef who thought of this dish. Both fishes dishes cooked beautifully and tasted so good. The salmon had a nice ‘sauce’.
Desserts were nice but we felt they were probably a little over priced for what you got. Definitely homemade though which was a plus.
Overall a very good meal and would recommend it. We will be going back when we are back in Norfolk again :)

Sadly, we were very disappointed with our experience at The Fishermans Tavern. We’d heard mixed reports, but wanted to try it ourselves before making a judgement.
The refurbishment is odd and feels unfinished. The general ambience lacks atmosphere and certainly doesn’t reflect the ambition of the menu nor the prices.
We all had starters, which were simple but good. The main courses were really poor. Fish Pie was a watery sauce of a few pieces of fish (no smoked fish or prawns) topped with lacklustre mash. All three of the party said they’d had better Fish Pie ready meals from the supermarket. The Halibut with curried chick peas (£28.50!!!) was terrible. Although a beautiful piece of fish the halibut was VERY overcooked and dried out. I would even suggest it had been microwaved. The curried chickpeas were also dry.
On being asked by the waitress how we’d enjoyed the meal and her being told our honest opinion we were told ‘We’ve only been open since April so we’re still feeling our way’! It’s now September…….
The cooking feels amateurish which is a shame as a good Fish restaurant should be a wonderful addition to Sheringham.
We won’t return.

We arrived in good time for the advertised 11.30 am opening yet the place was locked up and we could not get in, Staff inside appearing to be having a meeting rather than letting customers in
There are various menu's here including a garden menu which you must have if sitting in the garden ! Or so we are told
There are various meals on offer such as fish, scampi and burgers, When we got our food it was very small but worst of all the chips are frozen french fries that are over cooked and greasy, Quite honestly i would have enjoyed a McDonalds more and no doubt their chips would have been better too
This place seems somewhat disorganised to say the least with a staff member attempting to cut the grass with the onset of opening time
I went to the Fishmongers Tavern on a hearty recommendation i would not go back there if you paid me !
The meal i was served with was awful something that i would have been shamed at serving to guest in my own home let alone paying for it !

Very Disappointing!
We had booked a table a week before and were looking forward to our first meal out this year. Choosing the Fishmongers Tavern, as we want to support our local business, and as the Fishmongers Tavern is owned and supplied by local fishermen. We went for the Thursday Steak night, where the offer was you pay for one meal and get the second ( the cheapest !!) for £1.00. That sounded like a very good deal,; however the price of my Skate which I booked at the time of reserving the table was not stated.
I was very disappointed as this small thin half a wing of Skate was totally lacking in any taste at al, and was the thinnest piece of skate that I have ever eaten. However as I was hungry and did not want to make a fuss. I ate it all. My wife had the steak; which was so thin and chewy she cound not swallow it, she said it tasted like bread dipped in gravy, and returned the meat to the plate.
My chips were the size of Jenga wooden bricks-, not very tasty, but eaten as I said I was hungry. My wifes so called fries were like skin on potato shavings off a wooden board. - Tasteless.
After taking the plates to show the chef with the chewed bits of meat on the plate, the chef, then apologised and offered to cook us another meal. My wife and I declined this offer. Then I was offered 10% discount from the total meal. Not what you would expect. bearing in mind the poor taste &quality of the fish and steak. I paid the bill and we left. Never never again will we return. Its for the grockels.

This place has recently opened so the service was a bit "lumpy" but I'm sure it will improve - it needs to! Most tables seemed to be moaning about delays or wrong orders despite there being plenty of staff. The food was quite good despite one of the drinks being wrong and my partner getting her sea bass on a potato cake rather than the advertised crushed new potatoes. The menu is quite ambitious for such a "Bucket and Spade" destination so I would expect it to evolve over time. 2 biggest issues for me are the tipping buttons on the card reader which allows a cheeky minimum of 15% and the lack of car parking.

This review is a little slow in coming. We visited the restaurant a few weeks ago and promised a review. Our overall visit was excellent and worthy of a five star review. Service was quick and staff were very attentive. My husband was accidentally cooked the wrong fish and given the choice of a further wait for the correct fish to be cooked, or have the the meal for free. This was a generous and above reasonable outcome and he enjoyed his haddock and chips. I ordered the fish pie, which was delicious. Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was good. My only recommendation would be some nice pictures on the walls and less oppressive lighting.
Will definitely be going again soon.

To start the service was slow ( there were only two other tables occupied, so not busy). Slow to take drinks order. Service after that was very good.
We ordered the small plates as starters 4 for £17, smoked shelled prawns x2, Korean beef and squid rings and they were lovely. For our mains we ordered steak, fish pie and from the specials, scallops with risotto. They were all lovely, but we felt at £30 the scallop dish was over priced, the scallops were smallish and had been cut in half and had no glaze which if kept whole and charred would have been a lot better, plus there was no need for the hard pieces of squash shards. There is a pretty garden at the back, with a bar. It’s a shame the layout of the restaurant wasn’t down one side so you could appreciate the back garden. We will definitely go back and try some other dishes.

Booked for a Sunday, didnt want Sunday lunch as its suppose to be more of fish restaurant. Starters were ok but mains very disappointing, fish pie was bland and consisted of white fish and salmon not one prawn or smoked haddock to give it flavour, seabass was over cooked. Service was poor to say the least, took ages for drinks to arrive and mains brought out while emply starter plates still sat on table. Not once asked if food ect was ok. Won't be returning.

First visit for us. Staff were very accommodating even though we were earlier than we had booked for, especially staff member Summer. We ordered drinks and were given time to study menu. We decided to have nibble plates to start with and then took advantage of the January deal of buy one main get 2nd for £1. Food delivered promptly for nibble plates of smoked prawns and korean beef. Presented very nicely and the taste was sensational. Plates cleared without rushing us and then main courses bought. We decided on crab salad and catch of the day which was haddock. Big servings which we enjoyed but struggled to get through. We then had wine and a coffee. Atmosphere very nice with background music and they took notice of my request to not sit where dogs are permitted as do not like dogs. Well done we will be back.

Visited for an evening meal. The service was good but I found the fish and chips a bit on the greasy side and the chips looked like they’d been cooked about ten times. My husband had the fish pie and said it was good. What spoiled this for us was that my husband asked for a second bottle of cider only to be told that they didn’t have any more and when we got the bill they charged us £9 for the one he did have! £9 for a bottle! We went to Tesco and bought the same cider and it cost £6 for three bottles. I know that places need to make a profit but we were disgusted and felt totally ripped off. Not good.

Hi Susie, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
Apologies for this error on your drinks, the only bottled cider we sell is Old Mout which is £4.50 each, it seems that you have been charged for two bottles as opposed to the one you had.
If you could give us a call we would happily get that refunded, we agree £9 per bottle would be outrageous!

We decided to give FT a try as they had a special offer of buy a main get the 2nd for a pound. My husband ordered baked crab which he enjoyed I ordered fish pie, sadly ot was very disappointing hardly any fish and no sauce :(
Once we had finished the waitress asked if we had enjoyed our lunch I told her how disappointing the pie had been , she returned with our bill apologised and said she had not chatgef us for our drinks.
A nice gesture but not sure if we would return

We had the £15 set menu Saturday lunchtime, the food was excellent and great value. The service was good. The only downside was that we went at 3pm and it was quiet so there was little ambiance. The restaurant itself is immaculate and was cool and airey on a hot day. We will definitely go back.

My family and I had the taster menu; what can I say … Wow! Food was amazing, all 5 courses gave the option to try something different from crab, smoked salmon, pork belly and an amazing sea bass dish paired with a lobster bisque.
As they’d just opened we expected some teething problems but everything seemed to run really smoothly. Considering the restaurant was full they did so well to ensure the service was really attentive. Nothing was too much trouble especially for a table of 8.
Will we return again? Hell yes!
Well done to all for making the experience 10/10!
