Lovely Staff and a Great Lunch

We were looking for a light lunch in Sheringham and didn't really fancy a pub so thought we would try The Sitting Room. It is slightly off the beaten track although we have noticed it before but never been in. What a lovely find! I really liked the quirky 'shabby chic' style and the mis-matched vintage cups and saucers. We got a large pot of tea to share and the tap water was chilled. There is a decent choice of food and everything we had was really good. Prices were affordable: I added a good sized side salad to my toasted sandwich for a very reasonable £1.50p. Service was friendly and efficient and the staff are lovely. I would definitely go back and would unhesitatingly recommend a visit.

Hunted this little gem out after reading some of the fab reviews on here. So glad we did as it didn't disappoint. Greeted warmly and were advised no tables available inside but we could sit outside under the umbrellas not a problem for us so we were seated and the waiter wanted to take our details for contact tracing, he was delighted when i said we had already done it using the QR code noted outside. Our order was quickly taken, however as we visited later in the afternoon some of the items we requested were not available however our waiter was quick to recommend an alternative which was delicious. This is a gorgeous place to have a gorgeous lunch with a nice glass of wine. The desserts on display (those that were left) were also delicious and we will most definitely return!

Very accommodating and excellent food

We decided to eat lunch here on the spur of the moment, and were met by a good Covid set up. Table was cleaned before we were allowed to sit at it, and then after a short wait we were ready to place our order. After a discussion on what was still available (as we were eating a bit late) we were offered a good selection, including gluten free, from a very helpful gentleman. The food arrived quickly and was excellent quality and well presented. It was a while since we last had lunch here, usually a coffee and scone stop, but we will definitely be ordering lunch again. Highly recommended !

Never again!

Whilst waiting for almost an hour for lunch to arrive I witnessed various events that has left a very negative impression. 1. Chairs not sanitized after use. Oil and vinegar, pepper grinder shared between tables. 2. When a couple politely asked the owner if they could order they received a very rude response of’ can’t you see we are very busy here’. 3.On a couple of occasions the owner loudly spoke to other dinners about a bad review on Trip Advisor and other customers that obviously didn’t fall for his ‘ charm’. 4. One couple had their food delivered to the wrong table, was touch by a child, then after being taken back was then immediately delivered to the right couple who, understandingly didn’t want plates of food that others had had. On hearing this the owner seemed annoyed as he would lose money on the wasted quiche. 5. When the owner asked one couple if everything was okay, which it wasn’t, he became very vocal, rude and used the very inappropriate ‘F’ word. Everyone in the cafe seemed shocked by this outburst. I shall certainly not use this cafe again despite the food being okay.

I see you’re a user with no other reviews, and probably no more since, not really an active user of tripadvisor whom understands the point of the website and whose advice you’re like to rely on. Nevertheless, the day you visited was warm, it was lunch time, all our inside and outside seating was full, there was a queue of people waiting for lunch, I.e. we were busy, so thank you for pointing out that even under these circumstances you still managed to get your lunch in under an hour. What you overheard, or thought you may have overheard is irrelevant. Our thorough sanitising of touch points features in our cleaning procedures and we have only been commended by other reviewers so I’m happy our system works. Having said that, it is possible that occasionally something may be missed. Thats where you as a customer must also take precautions to protect yourself with frequent sanitising and washing hands, and certainly as you enter our premises. Lovely French Patisserie,however..

We never actually got to eat here, because the lovely gentleman taking the orders was unable to offer a dairy free option and was also unable to give me a menu showing what was on offer... Because I'm a huge COVID risk, so shielding, I can't go inside any establishment so couldn't go inside to look. So he asked us to leave and go somewhere else! I want to thank him for doing us such a favour, because we went across the road to Camellia Cottage, where all the staff wore face masks, took a picture of the cakes so I could see what they're was and happily took our order outside. And btw, Paul, if you're running an authentic 'French Patissiere', you would know what Tarte au Pomme and Tarte au Poire were.

Ah, and there we are! Given your attitude during the brief time you were with us, this was expected, the attitude which led us to refusing you service and request you leave our premises. Your rather spiteful account contains a number of inaccuracies which all in all, says a lot more about you than it does of us. Putting your lies aside, what I really struggle with here is, given you claim you are in such a high risk why would you refuse to follow the clear one way system we have implemented and, perhaps more importantly why on earth would you refuse to give your details for the test and trace? Your self entitled response being "I don't have to". No you don't but then again we don't have to serve you either. We did have dairy free options, but they were just not what you wanted, but that would not have been quite so sensational to say that would it? I, madam, am fully aware of the French for Apple tart and Pear tart, Raspberry tart, Custard tart, old tart, you hum it, I'll sing, but not content in being disrespectful to my staff in person you continue to ridicule my staff here, you should be ashamed of yourself, but I doubt you are. However it 100% confirms that you are not a particularly nice person, respect is earned not bought with £10 for couple of cups of coffee and slice of cake. With no further ado, les manières sont libres, D'accord. Bon.

Disappointing service and most of the menu was not available

We visited this venue for afternoon drinks on the first afternoon of our trip and had to go with our third option as the first two were unavailable. Went back for breakfast the following morning where the serving staff took a while to work the computer.. then we had to be disappointed as most of the breakfast menu was unavailable.. when we had finally got food ordered they brought the wrong food out.. to them be told that was all they had left. I wouldn't go back a third time.

I shall not dive into the commercials of running a food based business as I am sure that you are clever enough to work out its a balancing act of over and under supply to best manage the waste which lets face it is bad for the bottom line but also terrible for the environment. Sometime we do get the quantities wrong, but experience over many years has given us a good idea on how much and of what to order and prepare. That said, your grasp and your understanding of the issues in the supply chain throughout Europe as a result of businesses opening and closing due to lockdowns and so on is somewhat unrealistic and certainly unsympathetic to the hard work our staff put in. Not my problem did you say? Well unfortunately the fall out from the pandemic is everyones problem and we are all working under extremely difficult conditions and circumstance with inconsistent and unreliable supplies. The last comment about your breakfast being the last thing we had left and that was all you were getting does not seem true to me, and when something doesn't seem logical and right, its normally not. We aim to sell everything and dispose of nothing, so the early bird will definitely get the worm and we always make sure there is a dry crust of bread and some water for the late comers.

Curb Appeal, Not Clean Appeal

A pleasant welcome at the door. We were shown to a table that obviously, and I do mean obviously, had not been cleaned post the last guest(s); we had to ask to have it cleaned! The floor around the whole cafe had bits of waste food, from previous guests, around the chairs and tables. Our drinks and cakes were served relatively quick and were of a decent standard. Staff, in particular the young chap who was serving and preparing drinks and cakes was not wearing his mask correctly i.e. it only just covered his top lip and not his nose. All the waitresses wore there's fully and correctly. To sum up; not clean and I guess not following the COVID 19 current guidelines (I stand corrected if wrong. Not recommended due to cleanliness, or should I say "Lack of it".

Thank you for the feedback, we have a number of new staff onboard and its clear that additional retraining is required. I'll give you a bit of artistic licence, particularly since the only male barista trained staff member we have is myself, and I have not worked in the cafe for many months so I know that this chap was not preparing drinks which makes me question to what extent has this person "misremembered" the situation. I also I know that its unlikely you actually did survey the whole floor, but lets agree that the floor around your table could have been cleaner and we should do some refresher training for some of our new staff so thank you for your feedback I will make sure its addressed. Please do stand corrected as we have very strict covid mitigations and have often be thanked for the thoroughness of our processes, though its clear some slackness may have started to creep in which I'll nip in the bud.

No chef that day

Visited this place last summer and I didn’t have a good experience which still annoys me to this day. Took my parents here for their first time as I mentioned to them how nice it was the previous time I went. I pre booked the table and upon arrival, we waited for sometime for someone to take our order. When finally being served, they didn’t have what we wanted that was on the menu. My dad asked for bacon which they didn’t have or couldn’t serve as, I quote, “we don’t have a chef today”. Even when I asked for a fruit salad, they couldn’t prepare this because they had no chef. No explanation of why there was no chef. While I appreciate they were limited what they could serve that day but pre-booking our table, not being informed at arrival of having such a limited menu and waiting for some time to take our order to discover this, it just didn’t seem fair. Since, I’ve not gone out of my way to return.

A brilliant find

We enjoyed coffee seated outside in the morning and enjoyed our stay so much we returned for lunch. The first thing which attracted us was the very good Covid arrangements in place, clear waiting area, social distance signage, hand sanitizer at strategic points, staff wearing masks etc. We were able to sit outside for coffee but as the weather deteriorated we had lunch inside with tables suitably placed to ensure social distance. Enough of the Covid, the coffee/tea room is very clean and staff very friendly and efficient. They pride themselves on the quality of the coffee and the standard of lunches is very high, lovely food and well presented. This is certainly somewhere we can recommend highly and we will be back when we are next in the area.

We came here last August and its was so nice we came again this year. We had lunch here , August 2021, with family (4 adults & 2 youths) plus Dexter the dog. There is a great choice of food on the menu and it was all lovely & freshly prepared. We had a variety of panini's and toasted sandwiches with salad, with tea & coffee. The staff were lovey and friendly and there premises was clean with social distancing and sanitisers available. We can highly recommend The Sitting Room.

Lovely afternoon tea!

We went for an afternoon tea for our Grandmas birthday and went in beforehand to pay and let them know it’s going to be for her birthday. They said they would make it really special and they did! Really lovely selection of cakes and sandwiches and the scones were lovely as well. They sung to her and made it really nice for us, would definitely recommend.

Poor lunch experience!!

No doubt the owner Mr P will respond with a defensive attitude having read previous reviews. We were shown to a table,staff very attentive,drinks came super fast and then the wait for food……….we waited over half an hour……it was not particularly busy. 2 Panninis with meagre fillings,hard and dry not a lunch we will or would like to repeat!

Our first visit to Sheringham

Our first visit to Sheringham which was a much bigger and better town than we expected. Came across The Sitting Room by chance and was so glad we did. Breakfasts are exceptional and quirky. Loved the toast your own idea. We had a delicious lunch of homemade quiche and salad and OH had toasted sandwich with salad - also delicious. Loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit any time of day

Great cafe experience

On our last morning in Sheringham we went to the Sitting Room not knowing what they could provide. We were seriously impressed with the girl’s Porridge and fruit additions and blokes Bacon sandwiches. Great coffee and our tea choices including a decaffeinated option. The comfort and ambience was something special and Christian could not have catered for us any better. It was so popular from mid morning that they had no space for regulars but noted table bookings were allowed. A great place any time of day.

Average afternoon tea

Let me start by saying that the staff working here are lovely and very attentive; had booked afternoon tea as a treat after a long journey from London. Sadly the selection was very poor-sandwiches made from cheap bread, one scone and a very dry cake between us with some tiny macaroons and cold sausage rolls and pork pies. It all seemed very supermarket bought food and not as you often get home made. However the environment is nice and as I said service good-would I come back again probably as the other food on offer seemed good just there are other very nice places in the area to have afternoon tea.
