Very much a food pub but probably the best out of a bad bunch in Battle. Food is good but real ale is choice limited with one National available and Harveys the only other one. Nice patio area.

Our second visit which says something. The food was well cooked but did feel that the menu was rather limited and the prices expensive. I personally hate having to pay extra for chips and veg. A price should be for a meal not just the...More

Call ahead, have a drink in the fireplace couch first, listen to the jazz, then sit at a wooden table and let the chef make you remember food. Lucy is the best waitress. Hard to beat. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

We tucked ourselves in round the corner from the bar in a little alcove. Lots of little alcoves and nooks make this a great bar. Good range of drinks available, service fast and friendly. Prices a little on the high side. Due to the atmosphere,...More

There is a car park but I wouldn't say it is large and it could get full at peak times. It is also quite difficult to enter and exit.

At Chequers we aim to provide a new way to dine, a relaxed vintage atmosphere, exciting rustic British food and a classic British bar. With our chefs locally sourcing ingredients from only farms that we have firsthand knowledge of, foraging for those special ingredients that are forgotten on menus today and preparing every dish to let the flavours of each ingredient excite the taste buds exactly how they should. This all mixed with our excellent wine list of classic and some very unusual great wines, and a classic British bar, we hope that once enjoyed you will just want to keep coming back.
