Very disappointing went there for family birthday. First of all, the menus looked like they were never cleaned very sticky & dirty, major Covid risk. Whilst in there noticed the tables are not cleaned down after customers & the same table cloth is left on...table again another Covid risk. Waitress wasn't friendly, waited long time to be served with only a few people in the restaurant, wonder what it be like if it was busy!! Prices are ridiculous for a Westcliff restaurant & for what you get not worth it. Atmosphere was strange, felt like we were not welcome & felt we were disturbing the staff/owners. Would not recommend or go back.More

I went along with a friend who had booked the restaurant after having a great meal here a couple of years ago and we were going to the Palace Theatre so location wise it was ideal. I was not “feeling it” as the previous review...was so bad but hey ho. Anyway the food was superb, fantastic delicious. The morning after I’m still “feeling it”. We had a lovely waitress who was very helpful with giving advice. We had a small sangria which hit the holiday memory button. We ate chips with chicken tomatoes olives all presented on a large plate to share. A basket of homemade bread and a dish of piri piri sauce. Devine. Would love a branch up here in my neck of the Essex woods!More

This used to be an amazing restaurant 5*, been many times and recommended to a lot of family who also returned many times. Tonight a 1* if that!! The service....absolutely shocking. Not once did the waitresses smile, say hello, ask if out food was okay....Absolutely nothing!! Even when we paid there was no question of how our meal was The food.....terrible! The meat was dry and chewy. Skin on fries, covered in garlic...Why?? The sweet potatoes, burnt and tried to cover by adding some adding spices. We will not be returning unfortunately as this used to be one of our favourite restaurants in the local areaMore

We booked as per confirmation email., ie confirming booking over google- stood outside the restaurant and closed!!! Why did someone from the establishment contact me to say it would be closed on a Thursday!!! What a waste of time /travel. You really need to contact...the “reserve the table facility” to cancel, or look at your bookings and contact customer. Used to be a regular, couple of bad experiences but thought would give the benefit of the doubt. Final thought now confirmed- never again!!More

The food was spot on. The staff was very friendly and the service was really nice too. If you're looking for a portuguese restaurant then this one is arguably one of the best at least in South England. It is a bit pricey but very...worth it.More

Such a shame that 'happyeatermostly' had a bad experience here in September. We've been eating at O Picado for many years and we always look forward to either visiting or take-away. We are also in the catering industry, a local cafe for 20 years and...unfortunately its just not possible to get everything right all the time because we're not perfect. My Brother has visited O Picado twice and not been bowled over with it, but we are. October 8th was my wife's birthday so we collected and took it home and as our experiences of this restaurant have taught us the food was exceptional. I mean really really good in every respect; it was very hot, fresh and huge portions we couldn't finish (this is usual for them) and so tasty. Recently I've been getting the Madeira fish stew, it looks and tastes fantastic, rich and hearty and big chunks of fish in it. My wife loves the chicken espetada (so do I, its also delicious), so tasty and juicy and so much of it! Also the maize is lovely, we have that every time. My Son had the beef picado and loved it, hes had that several times. No cafe or restaurant will get everything right, every time and I'm not going to say O Picado is the 'best in Southend' because I haven't been to every restaurant in Southend. But this will continue to be our first choice, great food, great portions, great value for money, Oh and its very quaint inside! well done.More

It's amazing how we feel at home, all the staff is friendly, the place is cosy..great for every occasion, cause the owner is really flexible about our needs, and always wants us to feel welcomed. The food is AMAZING, just order randomly and you'll love...it for sure! Definitely a place to return. Lovely evening!!! 😍😍More

This used to be the best restaurant in the area but has gone massively downhill. My wife had a poor experience a while ago but I didn’t believe her. We went, on my insistence, last night. Service was ok if slow in an almost empty...restaurant but I was there for the food and ordered my favourites. The Flambé chorizo tasted like lighter fluid but I ate most it, almost disbelieving what I was tasting. Mushrooms were ok. Then our mains came. My beef skewer was ok but not a patch on previous visit but my wife’s octopus picaro was a joke and seemed to have been bulked out with white fish. Also the ships were undercooked. We asked about the sausages and complained and were told that they were trying a new accelerant that’s night. Had they not thought to taste it themselves? After the meal I spent a happy four hours with an upset stomach. I won’t be back. Happy birthday to me.More

I'd never been to this Portuguese restaurant, but tried a takeaway on recommendation during the lockdown and I was delighted - the food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes generous. It was good value for money too. A stew of beef with beans and tomatoes...and served with rice was excellent - full of flavour and perfectly prepared with tender beef. Garlic mushrooms were also delicious and a huge portion. Seasonal vegetables were obviously from frozen which was the one negative, but everything else was so good I would totally recommend food from O Picado. I will try their food again and hope to go there soon!More
