I went to the Phoenix for Sunday lunch and had roast chicken with Ll the trimmings. It was truly the most delicious roast I have ever had anywhere, even mine which is pretty spectacular.

Have been to Phoenix ocassionally over a few years........3 of us went this evening and although starters were very nice we had ordered Chatauebriand for 2 which was tough and chewey......I mentioned this to the waitress as she took our plates away and she appeared a few minutes later to say the chef apologised.......I'm still trying to work out the... Overall the pub is lovely and the food is of a very high standard - heard some great reviews.... then we came for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. On arrival we were kept in the bar, which with a pushchair, gives the word "tight" a whole new meaning but this was only to be the beginning, when we finally... More
Enjoyed a pleasant evening meal here last night. Friendly staff and really good food. I had the chefs 1/2 pound burger which was perfectly cooked and full of wonderful flavored and very nicely presented.
We arrived and went to the bar to get a round of drinks and tell them we had booked a table for 10. There were 3 members of staff behind the bar, it took a while to be served even though it wasn't busy. (Don't stand talking when customers need serving.) Bar staff seemed to lack experience - I appreciate... More
We met some friends here the night before a wedding, and despite being a tad late due to a delayed journey, the staff didn't mind at all. We were very impressed with the value of the menu, and all the food was really tasty! I had a goats cheese and walnut salad (as a main) and definitely had a week's... More
Turned up on spec on Easter Monday, and were accommodated immediately. We both had a smoked trout salad with prawns and crayfish. The dressings for both the green salad and the prawns were tasty and the smoked rainbow trout was delicious.
Awful - pretty much from start to finish. Booked months ago on a recommendation from friends. Arrived to a barman asking us 'yes?' So we told him we'd like to order drinks! We were then told to 'go queue' at your allocated time and would be seated. No children's menu available available but could do smaller portions. Starters arrived -... More
We visited The Phoenix for the first time just over a year ago, having had it recommended to us by friends. On our arrival, the waitress said we had ordered the mussels, hadn't we? No, we hadn't. She told us if we'd changed our minds, that was fine, not to worry about saying so. We repeated that we hadn't ordered... More
Visited Wednesday evening at 7.15pm. Booked a table which I would always recommend! We went on the recommendation of another friend who had been there with her family. There was a good choice of starters with prices from about £5-£10. A good choice and all very tasty. A great choice of main meals, with something on offer to suit every... More
