Not at all as expected. Staff very welcoming, G&R clean and uncluttered (compared to visit prior to change of ownership) and food excellent. This is fine dining and not pub grub (even good quality pub grub doesn't match presentation). More a feast for the eyes and nose as well as a delight to the palette.

We used to go to the "Globe" many years ago but then they sold the old pub off as a private house. Browsing trip adviser a couple of weeks ago I found good reports, I hadn't even realised it was still there, but behind the old building. We dropped in on the off chance, without a booking, for Sunday Lunch.... More

So glad to finally have a proper chef near us, providing good quality food. So many spend a fortune doing up a pub only to employ a second rate chef who thinks he's Heston. Not the case here. The globe and rainbow has spent more getting a decent chef and less on the interior. Once word gets round, this pub... More

Arrived for snack lunch on a cold winters day after a lovely walk to a cold unwelcoming bar with no staff in sight. We found a table in the bar as we had our dogs with us, noticing a log burner alight in the restaurant but no heating in the bar, apart from a cold lonely radiator. Disappointed to find... More

Dull December, we ate from the daily 2/3 course menu. Cooked to order by a polite, approachable staff. Sensible medium sized portions.. Just right for us. If you want warmed over carvery piled up plates forget it. Far too good for you. Highly recommended.

Popped along for a group Christmas lunch and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! (We have been regulars for a while now and this pub has had its up and downs to say the least!). Vegetarian food as per normal in lots of these country pubs was limited (pasta and rice features again even at Christmas!) but... More

The Globe and Rainbow has long been a well reputed eaterie, although more recently had gone a little downhill. Since the new owners have taken over however there has been a clean sweep and a new beginning. The food is excellent, and the service is attentive and charming. The maitre d' keeps a sharp eye on things and you feel... More

While a local to the Globe & Rainbow this was the first time that I have eaten there for dinner since it changed hands.....and I was so pleased that we did. Despite being fully booked the team were able to fit us in (but without compromising on space or comfort). We both had a starter and main (mine the Crubeens... More

A group of 6 of use went on a Friday evening. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was very comfortable, mixed with the beautiful food. One of my friends has a few allergies and the chef was so helpful and went out of his way to accommodate her. We had such a good time and really enjoyed... More

I was taken here for my 70th birthday and enjoyed one of the best meals ever, accompanied by superb wine. My wife and sister shared a joint of slow cooked lamb which just fell off the bone and was declared delicious. I had the venison which was cooked to perfection. The portion sizes meant we had room for some lovely... More
