Just back from an overnight stay! Thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff were all polite, welcoming and efficient! Our room was beautiful with views of the river, really comfortable bed and a bathroom with separate shower...a nice change from the usual shower over the bath! A good selection of tea and coffee and endless supplies of fresh milk and chilled bottles... More

After visiting the sister restaurant the Mason's Arms at Cartmel fell a few weeks ago we where expecting great things. So we gave it a try last Wednesday, late afternoon. Walked in and sat down, we where ignored for about 10 minutes so got up and walked to the bar to order drinks.. Then went and asked for menus, we... More

Beautiful little pub in the heart of the countryside, just opposite the abbey. Wonderful beer garden and great ale! Unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked so we couldn't sample to food but hopefully we will be able to on our next visit.

My wife and I decided as part of our Golden wedding celebration to have a special treat at the spread eagle in Sawley with two of our friends for the night .We were met by very friendly young staff who helped us to our rooms with our bags. The bedrooms were very well appointed clean and spacious. We then went... More

Went to see Dan Browns Inferno at the Spread Eagle in Sawley near Clitheroe on Lancashire. They do a dine and Cinema night about once a month, we visited the place a couple of months ago and booked for this film as we had wanted to see it. We were staying at a cottage (Horseshoe Cottage) nearby so we thought... More

Last minute decision to go out for lunch - probably around 15 miles from home - Spread Eagle at Sawley. Been here before, but not recently, and not before for lunch. Welcoming staff, cosy table for two in the bar area. Warm atmosphere. Food - pleasant, perhaps rather expensive - and definitely under-seasoned !! One nibbles, one starter, one small... More

If, on a squally winters day, you walk into a pub with a great selection of hand-drawn ales, a warm welcome and a black Labrador, then you know you're on to a winner. To be fair, the Labrador was a guest rather than part of the pub, but still, it all added to a great ambience. We were shown effortlessly... More

We have visited the Spread Eagle a few times now while staying at a local caravan site. Each time the food has been superb! This week we had the fish and chip deal as it was Wednesday. Beautiful homemade tomato soup for starter followed by fish (crispy and not greasy) chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. We finished off with... More
