Grannies restaurant/cafe is in the basement of Grannies delicatessen shop on Narrowgate. It isn't the easiest of places to get into as you have to descent some fairly steep steps, but it is worth it when you get in there. It is beautifully decorated with 'grannies' style memorabilia and serves excellent coffee, scones, cakes and a wide-ranging menu of casual... More

My wife and me often visit the lovely town of Alnwick to be spoilt during our visit to Grannies which is a very well established business. As you may see from other fellow travellers this place gets a thumbs up. Our favourite lunch is the clubhouse sandwiches which there is a selection to choose from. Excellent presentation , freshly made... More

In the basement of a lovely delicatessen in Alnwick lies Grannies tearoom. We visited today and the food was outstanding along with the service provided by the staff. My wife had a cheese platter and I had the broth, which was full of barley and the nicest I have ever had. We also had drinks and the bill was only... More

Just wanted something light for lunch and had some delicious sandwiches with a tasty side salad ...Well worth the money. The building is quirky and steeped in history with original features. Staff very friendly and helpful. Look out for the original painting in the cellar ...Is she male or female?!

Very cheap sandwiches with a good selection on the menu - perhaps too much filling, making baguettes almost impossible to eat. Unfortunately it was very cold inside and lacked an atmosphere.

Myself and wife went in here for a lunch time snack, made our choices, and were surprised with the quantity. This never took it away from the quality which was excellent. It is a small Tea Room but they offered quite a large selection on the menu, something for everyone. We found the staff very obliging and helpful.

Mad dash into the doorway during Storm Doris, a minute or two wait for a table was of little consequence when we got seated. First class service from two lovely ladies who looked worked to death. Being a frugal Yorkie,we opted for afternoon tea which was superb value and the Northumberland smoked cheese was yummy.

Visited with parents one miserable Saturday afternoon. Weather was atrocious but as soon as we stepped inside this hidden gem, we immediately cheered up! Freshly baked scones and superb soup. Love the old fashioned setting downstairs in the cellar whilst upstairs, there's a lovely delicatessen. Service excellent.

Easy to find in central alnwick, this cosy lower ground restaurant always serves fresh, tasty food. We come here for lunch or coffee when travelling on the A1. Today delicious sandwiches served with salad and crisps, cheese scones and freshly made teas and coffees. The cherry Bakewell tart was fabulous! Steep steps down through the great delicatessens upstairs, so not... More

Description
Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen.

Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
