Lovely food and good service. Steaks well cooked and portion size improved from previous visit, good wine choice to compliment. Service from Meg and the rest if the team was excellent, attentive and friendly. Prices are steep, but quality high.

Went here for Sunday roast after a long walk with the family in the countryside we were greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome from who we would assume was the manager. The food was outstanding and the service great from start to...finish nothing was too much trouble and the manager Matt spent time talking to us making sure everything was ok which it was more than good you have a great manager leading a great team. We will definitely return to this gem we have foundMore
We had lunch with friends as was recommended whilst in the area. Good menu and attentive service- would definitely visit again.
Plain awful. Took an hour for lunch to arrive. Four different dishes all very mediocre. Manager most unhelpful. Used to go often and it was brilliant. Would not reurn
Stayed with another couple for a night for a friends wedding. After the wedding arrived back at 10.15pm for a night cap, only to be told by the bar manager, after one drink, that we need to vacate the bar and go to our rooms...as he needs to go home because he is working in the morning. Used the mens toilet only to find there was no loo paper. In the morning, using the complimentary coffee, we phoned reception for some milk, only to be told there was no staff, and for us to go down stairs to collect it. Breakfast was satisfactory, although no ketchup. It is a quaint hotel but the management and staff need to work on their customer service. Would not recommendMore
The Angel used to be great and I have used it for many years. Today's visit was a disappointment. First up, I was greeted by someone who was not particularly welcoming. There were no tables for drinks - everything was booked for lunch. The bar...stools which they normally have had been removed for some bizarre reason. I eventually was told I could sit at a table because it wasn't needed till later. The bartender mixed the dregs of the old bottle of champagne into my fresh glass and stirred it around. I guess she hoped I wouldn't notice? The manager, to his credit, didn't argue and replaced the glass when I mentioned the problem. It was, however, the meanest looking flute you've ever seen and didn't stay fizzy for long. My food was horrible. The selection of bar snacks has diminished beyond all recognition. How you can charge £3.50 for peanuts beggars belief. Needless to say I asked for the service to be removed from the bill. The problem here is mainly down to staff. Working in hospitality requires a certain mindset and they don't all have it. It will be my last visit.More
Awful food most disgusting Roast dinner, guy I assume in charge was not helpful and even though apologised in no way tried to redeem the food. Will never visit again, unfortunate as previously had a lovely meal thereMore
Dear Rainyf321, Thank you for your visit and your time to write this review. We are sorry to hear that your expectation was not met on this occasion. Once again we do value your feedback and we hope that you give us another chance perhaps...More
Won't be visiting again. Ordered roast dinner, which was inedible. Beef was all fat. Roast potatoes like bullets, couldn't be cut. For some reason beetroot was on the plate. Never known with a roast before. Yorkshire hard. Some round rock hard thing...we assume perhaps celeriac?!...Couldn't tell as was tasteless. We had 2 mouthfuls at most and couldn't eat it. Told the waiter, who's attitude was a lot to be desired. He stated, " oh well they were last two ,so probably been sat an hour!" We said we would pay for the drinks and leave. One of which was a carafe of wine, which had just a small amount taken from it. The rest of the wine was still in the carafe. I stated I'd pay for a glass. He said "no you won't, there's nothing wrong with the wine!". I said "then if I'm paying, I'll take it with me", as was £17. He handed me a takeaway coffee cup with a hole in, to carry my wine! Appalling food, disgusting service.More

Oh dear what has happened to this once lovely pub?-I have been a regular here since moving to Petworth 5 years ago and even if I have not been for several months have always got a wonderful welcome from the super staff-sadly not any more.I...went for lunch with a friend who knows the pub well and has stayed there-we came for a late lunch around 1.45 but it is an all day menu so this should not be problem,no welcome from anybody and when asked why we had come we were told that they were closing early? There was a man at the bookings desk who I assumed was the manager though he was so badly dressed it was difficult to tell,he made no effort to explain the circumstances and the girl said if we sat down and ordered at once we could have lunch-wow how welcoming. There were only 3 tables in use in the main dining room and a few tables in use in the garden though we were told it was full?A waiter came to take our order again no greeting and all the charm of a prison warder-the food was good but the whole experience was ruined by the atmosphere in the place as it was quite obvious that the entire team took their lead from the manager who was totally graceless and spent his time sighing deeply as if he would rather be anywhere than in the Angel-whoever owns this place -get your act together, bring in a good manager and get some staff training fast or lose any good will and custom you ever hadMore

We were just out on a walk in Petworth when we decided to come to The Angel Inn for a spot of lunch. Our waitress Megan I believe? - she was absolutely delightful, very attentive, polite and friendly definitely an asset to the team! And...hats off to the chefs for a wonderful fish and chips, and tomato salad were top notch, we enjoyed our lunch so very much. Keep up the good work. We will be sure to come back very soon.More

Lunch here today was disappointing in the extreme. We used to visit fairly regularly perhaps every couple of months, I always left a review and they were always five stars. Today everything was poor apart from the wine and coffee. They used to have enthusiastic,...friendly, efficient staff, today they were although friendly enough the efficiency and enthusiasm had gone. Our meals were poor. My wife had Primavera pasta in which the pasta was giant penne heaped unattractively and not the light, fresh dish anticipated. My salmon fish cakes consisted mainly of potato with only tiny pieces of salmon and were perched on a mound of potatoes and courgettes. Under seasoned and underwhelming for £19 I expected better. The meal was so different to those we have had in the past I wondered if either the Chef was on holiday or had moved on. Our lunch came to £60 for one glass of very good Albariño, 4 half slices of thinly sliced, fairly ordinary bread (the Hungry Guest bread board!), 2 mains as above and 2 double espressos.More

Massively disappointing from the start, we arrived at 7.30 and at least 3 staff stood behind the bar but no acknowledgement or welcome. We stood at the till point waiting to be acknowledged and a sullen unsmiling girl initially ignored us, then told us to...wait until she had finished stabbing at the screen infront of her. No welcome or smile, when she finally finished, she asked what we wanted. Still no welcome. She pointed at unmade up table and directed us to sit us there. The atmosphere made us feel uncomfortable and we felt we were a complete inconvenience. One of our party ask to swap the new potatoes for chips with the fish cake she ordered, the server came back and told us they wouldn't serve chips with the fish cakes as it only comes with new potatoes? Really! The wine bottle was dumped on the table without being opened alongside two beers by this time we had had enough and immediate cancelled our food order, went to pay for the drinks we had consumed. Just to add further insult they added a service charge to the bill. When we questioned it the staff member asked us why we were leaving and then argued with us. Fortunately we were able to find another near by fabulous restaurant who welcomed us and delivered excellent service and food but is ruined the start of our evening out.More

Let me start by pointing out that I’ve written glowing reviews for this restaurant in the past… however a family lunch last Mothers Day (March ‘23) resulted in all four of us later becoming very sick (£130 later). We all ate the same thing: roast...beef. We contacted the Angel and explained what had happened; we were told someone would call us back… this went on for weeks if not months — because we’re still waiting for someone to call us back. It’s unfortunate that we all got so sick after eating at The Angel, but it’s actually quite appalling that no one was concerned enough to follow up our calls or prepared to compensate us.More

Not been to the Angel for some time, but the experience was all that we hoped for. We sat out in the delightful garden/courtyard on a lovely sunny day. The food was excellent and the service exemplary, although it was busy and a lot of...walking from the kitchen and the bar into the garden was required by the staff.More
