The restaurant is located on top of Gurten, and you are likely to visit Gurten in the first place - which is definitely a good choice while you are in Bern.
The restaurant Gurtners is a cozy place, and from there you get a nice view of the city of Bern.
The food is delicious and the service is absolutely a thumbs up. The meal is maybe slightly more expensive than the average in Bern, but with the nice city view and the quality of food and service, I would not hesitate to recommend it.

My wife and I went to Gurten around 8pm looking for somewhere casual to eat and watch the sunset, and Gurtners was the only place open. It was much fancier than we were looking for but we decided to eat there anyways.
The menu was very small (two preset five course options and a small a la carte menu) and at first there wasn’t anything on it really jumping out to us. We also couldn’t get a table on the edge of the balcony to watch the sunset without a reservation, so we debated leaving but decided to stay.
The service was good and multiple servers came out to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our meal. The food was also much better than we initially expected and we ended up having a nice dinner. The chef really made some beautiful presentations.
If you’re looking for a fancier dinner up here, Gurtners is a great choice but make sure you make a reservation ahead of time if you want a good seat that looks out over Bern.

We had an absolutely great experience at Restaurant Gurtners! Mimi was our host and she did a great job!
The menu was also offered in a vegeterian option, which was perfect for us.
As my main vegetarian course was a bit bigger than my husbands meat course, he finished already halfway through my course, but Mimi observed our table perfectly and offered a supplement, which arrived very quickly, so both of us finished our main course at the same time.
The wine menu was very well chosen. With every course we got served a glass of wine, except of course with the dessert.
Timing on serving the meals was perfect and Mimi asked regularly, but not too often, if we were ready for the next course.
We’ll certainly return and this restaurant is now in our top 3 here in Bern!

Dogshit service. Below average food. Minuscule portion sizes. Overpriced compared to other establishments with similar dishes. We arrived at 18:15 and I'm sitting here at 20:35 with an empty glass, no food in front of me, and an empty stomach. This place has no concept of time. I would STRONGLY recommend that you take your business elsewhere. There are probably 6 parties here eating and it has been over 2 hours for our 4 course meal.

Gurtners is an experience! The experience starts with getting there by cogwheel train, and continues with magnificent views over Bern, followed by excellent seasonal food in a a classy and comfortable contemporary restaurant. We loved it. Good for a special romantic date, for entertaining visiting family and friends, or for an important business dinner.

We stopped here to have a drink and maybe an appetizer. We ended up having a bottle of wine and dinner. The food was fantastic. The wine was a local Gurten product that was excellent and the view of Bern is beautiful. However, the best part of the experience and the reason we stayed for more than just a drink was the maitre d' Patrick. He made us feel special, important and a priority even though we dropped in without a reservation and were just looking for a snack and a drink. Patrick, thank you for such a lovely experience. We will return every time we come to Bern.
For anyone visiting Bern, you must make a reservation and come here. You can take a tram out of Bern, make a short walk up to the funicular and have a beautiful ride up the hill to Gurtners. And, best of all, you get to meet Patrick. You won't regret it!

We had lunch on the sunny terrace. We were seated quickly but it took a while for out waitress to appear with the menu. She was very friendly and good humoured and made up for the wait. We had a beer to accompany the set menu, which was 49CHF per person. We had a wonderfully fresh asparagus salad followed by the trout fillets, which were well cooked and finished with the Osterfladerli, an Easter tart. Our desserts arrived separately and I had finished mine by the time my husband's appeared. We finished the meal with peppermint tea, which was good quality but served in china beakers that were stylish but impossibly hot to hold. The meal came to around 113CHF. Overall the food and view was worth it - service was chaotic despite there being quite a few staff seving tables but I give 10 out of 10 for out waitress.

We were allowed to enjoy a Höi- Whisper 4-course menu in the garden. The food was very delicious, nicely arranged and with that certain something (e.g. basil ice cream, homemade apricot chutney). Something must have gone wrong in the kitchen! The service was very pleasant and uncomplicated. An all-round successful evening. We would definitely come back!

It was our wedding day and once again we wanted to enjoy the offer "Candellight Dinner" on the Gurten.
So far we have always been very satisfied, this time it left a number of wishes unfulfilled.
The food was good but for the price I would not have expected pork but something cheaper. On the menu in the internet stand beef/veal and we get Rippli.
At dessert I had the feeling that we just got leftovers from the self-service offered during the day.
It wasn't anywhere near the quality we knew.

Went to Gurtners for the first time today. The place is very nice. We were just at the window and had a wonderful view. The weather was good too. There is a large selection of delicacies. What I particularly liked: the champagne :-) The service was also attentive. The only disappointing point: when it came to the bill, the waitress wanted to count our younger children (9 and 12 years old) as adults, even though it said both online and on the table card that the children's price (CHF 39.50) was for children up to 12 years old. When asked about this, she said that the decision depends on the child's consumption habits (whether they eat a lot or a little). In the end, she also charged the 12-year-old daughter the amount of CHF 72, which we only noticed after receiving the bill. This borders on arbitrariness. It was a great pity that the event ended on such a negative note. Legally, the restaurant is bound by its terms and conditions.

Absolutely disappointing candlelight dinner. It started with the fact that we had to search for a long time before we could find our reservation. Then we had to wait at a table in the middle of nowhere, and we were asked for our order even though we hadn't received a menu. Several waiters were incompetent and had no idea what to do. The food: the salad was run-of-the-mill and had no flair, the wild boar fillet was absolutely dry, just warmed up with canteen sauce, the mashed potatoes and vegetables were already cold, the best thing was the cassis yoghurt for dessert, even though the brownie it was served on was also absolutely dry.

We have eaten at Gurtners restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed it.
Yesterday, however, we were extremely disappointed. A bad leaf salad, a leek soup with croutons like I would make at home and then a pumpkin quiche like in the Migros restaurant.
No more creative ideas like carrot mousse or parmesan shavings.
Just a menu like in a retirement home. It's a shame, but the old head chef is probably no longer there. But we won't be coming back.
The service was friendly and the ambience is still great. But the food was not at all in keeping with a "connoisseur Monday".

We received a very friendly welcome and were shown to a wonderfully decorated table. The room is beautifully designed and the nighttime view of the lights over the city of Bern is magnificent. We signed up for the Monday gourmet menu. Unfortunately the menu is not announced in advance, but it is the 4-course lunch menu for the week in question (can be seen online on the menu). We were very impressed with every course (it was rather poorly described on the menu). It was very seasonal, fresh and original and very beautifully presented. At the beginning we were given an aperitif of our choice with great bread and special spreads. The greeting from the kitchen (salmon mousse) was also excellent. The accompanying wine accompaniment included a choice of 3 white and 3 red wines and all were very good (in contrast to the wines in the Tapisrouge). With the coffee there was also a fine schnapps of our choice and an original box of friandises and cocoa strips. The two service people (woman with long black hair and Mexican waiter) were absolutely brilliant (very courteous and very friendly). Simply a great evening at an absolutely fair price for this good menu including drinks. We will be back soon!
