My friend and I visited the Departure and had a great time! Super cool vibe, great views of downtown, knowledgeable staff and delicious food! We tried the vegan root & vegetable roll, Mongolian beef, and the kimchi hot-pot. Definitely go if you’re visiting Portland, but...More

The past few times I’ve been in Portland I’ve tried to go here to grab a quick bite and have a few drinks. Got lucky this time on a Wednesday night for 6 of us. Food is always pretty good, and is Asian fusion for...More

We came for happy hour, since it wasn't crowded we were given the choice between restaurant seating or the bar room seating. We chose the restaurant but wished we had just gone to the more casual area, they both had the view. It's a little...More

We stopped by Departure while visiting Portland for the weekend and found the place to be oddly pretentious. The food was good - the udon noodles was great and the coconut soup desert was incredible. Still, I wasn't completely wowed because the service felt rushed...More

Was quickly seated, attended to by waitstaff, and presented with excellent and imaginatively created dishes. The sushi was fresh and brilliantly seasoned. Noise level is a tad high and this is clearly a happening place on the Portland food scene.

What a wonderful way to enjoy the city while enjoying time with friends over drinks or dinner. We actually liked having drinks and dessert the most. The service is top notch. Atmosphere makes this a unique venue for the downtown community.

Departure Restaurant is located atop the Nines Hotel and offers modern Asian cuisine in a sleek, cosmopolitan setting with two outdoor decks and stunning views of the city, mountains and river. Chef de Cuisine Gregory Gourdet creates traditional Asian preparations with Northwest ingredients in signature dishes such as the restaurant’s grilled kushiyaki selections, Indonesian spiced chicken and maguro karai honey sushi rolls. Departure’s bar showcases exotic cocktails, a global wine list and the city’s largest sake list. The saké and shochu list is one of the largest in the city and represents many hand-crafted, artisan producers. Departure boasts the design skills of Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture, one of Portland’s leading architectural firms. The overall design of the 9,000 square-foot space added a new full-level 15th floor to the original 1908 Meier & Frank building and two new rooftop patios with views overlooking downtown Portland, the Willamette River, Mt .Hood and Mount St. Helens. The design elements play off the notion of an urban escape.
