In reviewing a restaurant I consider food quality, taste and presentation, ambience and service. Considering the excellent reviews that this restaurant has had, the service did not meet my level of expectation. We had to initiate almost every contact with the server asking for refill of the bread, asking again and then explaining "no" we did not ask for wine.... More

We went to Clarklewis last night for a special birthday party and it was fantastic!! The food was excellent--very spring fresh with fiddlehead ferns and morel mushrooms. The steak was wonderful, the portions were ample with a lot of fresh asparagus cooked perfectly. One vegan member of the group was very pleased with the suggestions he received from the waiter... Atmosphere ? Kind of like the inside of an all-black warehouse. Noise level: much too much ! Service and food : good; not great Prices: mid-30's for halibut or lamb dinner Drinks: pretty good, but expensive

The place is LOUD. The atmosphere is unusual, non-traditional -- just plain odd. It's located in a 'warehouse' where they chop their wood in the entryway -- did I mention this place is loud? The food was slightly better than average and the waitstaff is attentive.

Had a delicious lunch, loved the ambiance and the service. Had a very nice, crisp Clarklewis white wine and the bread from Central Bakery was truly amazing-now we need go to the bakery as well. Pastrami sandwiches were a hit!We will go back to this restaurant again for lunch but want to try dinner as well

Menu, service and ambience excellent. A small gripe: We were there during "restaurant month". What they showed online before and after our visit not on the "special menu" the night we were there, but was on the regular menu. Bait and switch if an appliance store, small irritant in a restaurant. But well crafted, interesting dishes and knowledgeable servers. Drinks... More

Hi Acepdx Thank you for this thoughtful review. Admittedly we were overwhelmed during Portland Dining Month. We fell short with prep and resorted to last minute substitutions. It was not our intent to "bait and switch" as we always hope to give great value and interesting, varied selections. I am happy you enjoyed your experience and I appreciate the feedback.... More

Just a sleepy experience. Nothing I had put a pep to my step or tickled my fancy at all. Food was average. Nothing stood out. Crab salad=salty, lamb ragu=average, pork chop=flavorful but dry and pound cake=ok. Wanted to give a lower score but there is potential.

Since its opening several years ago, we've considered clarklewis one of Portland's best places. But having dined there again since a year ago, our good impressions have faded. It's not the same original culture. We checked the Portland Dining Month menu online in early March, and liked the clarklewis choices for this special menu. We especially looked forward to the... Dear FoodieWineFun: Thank you for your candid and useful review of the Dining Month menu. I'm sorry your experience fell short of expectations. I assure you however that the standards held since 2003 are still in place. I think we were just a little overwhelmed during the Portland Dining Month promotion. I hope you will try Clarklewis again so we... More

We went to celebrate a birthday but really wanted to eat here on the Portland Dining Month menu. Service was good and attentive. The atmosphere was on the loud side but that was okay as we had a 5 year old and an 8 month old. The appetizer were some cheeses and pickled onions and peppers along with hazelnuts. I... More

This is a cool old warehouse space, with a earthy organic vibe. Cosy and rustic. Wood burning kitchen right in the open for all to see is very cool. Menu features seasonal "farm-to-table" style. Enjoyed a decent dinner here with co-workers one evening. I loved the seafood stew appetizer and wish i would have ordered it for my entree, as... More

Clarklewis creates delicious, hand-crafted Northwest cuisine with Italian and French influences, and proudly support local, organic farms. With exquisite farm-to-table ingredients, Clarklewis is a sophisticated gem on the creative frontier of Portland's unpolished Inner Eastside in the industrial district. The chefs offer an ever changing seasonal menu that features fresh from the market produce.
