While visiting Salem, Oregon, we went to The Sassy Onion on the recommendation of a friend. We were not disappointed! Try the French toast, but unless you have a huge appetite, only get one. We got the combo of two eggs and bacon or sausage. Huge portions! The French toast was the size of a lunch plate and almost two... More

We went to breakfast there twice and it was delicious. The service was awesome and the staff was very attentive. We have a wheelchair and a large party so the wait was a little long but they always seated before they said they would... so don't be afraid of the wait. And if you do have to wait the food... Popped in here based on a simple Google search. We were expecting another "greasy spoon".....you know, good food-sketchy staff/kitchen/location/etc. Not so much! Staff was really friendly and we were seated fairly soon. Place is clean and well maintained. Servers were polite, thorough, and professional. Food was great....and in volume. Word to the wise....unless you are a professional eater, only get... More

I spent the weekend in Salem this past weekend to attend a Willamette University alumni board meeting. It gave me the chance to catch up with old college friends who still live there. They recommended meeting at the Sassy Onion on State Street for breakfast. What a great meal. The portions were more than ample. I had a California omelette,... More

This is a cool place! I had an Hawaiian scramble and it was great. The sourdough toast was made in-house. It was thick and tasted great. The service was fantastic, as well. I don't make it to Salem often but I'll be back when in town!

We attended a dinner catered by the Sassy Onion for volunteers of the Salem Free Clinic on Broadway St in Salem, OR. First and foremost, Sassy Onion donated the catered meal as the Salem Free Clinic is operated by donations and volunteers. Sassy Onion served chicken in a white gravy with seasoning, rice pilaf, green beans, a green salad and... More

Came here and you would've thought it was the only breakfast restuarant in town. It was PACKED! Their espresso was pretty boring, I'd skip it and get your usual cuppa Joe elsewhere. Fair prices, good food, it hit the spot!

Sassy Onion suffered fire damage a few months ago and has been closed for remodeling. During this interim, employees were paid to volunteer in the community and this impressed us deeply! During their "Re-Opening Days": we stopped in for breakfast. With a new menu, seating, entry, and kitchen, it is still a great place to be for breakfast or lunch.... More

I have had wonderful breakfast meals here. I tried this two different times for lunch before writing a review, hoping the second time would be better than the first. I was disappointed both times. The lunch items are just not that special, though they were good enough to be average (not a bad rating by the way). The first time... More

Went for lunch with several out-of-towners. We chose this restaurant because of its good reputation. The entry is shabby, with a bunch of drink bottles in the display case. (Weird) Our companions ordered soup and salad combo (which wasn't on the menu) and received a cup of soup and a tiny handful of salad with a minuscule piece of bread.... More
