Best Italian food in the area! Delicious ingredients. I have tried almost everything on the menu and cannot say one negative thing about any dishes. They are all great! Love that this place is family run and personable. Definitely check out their bakery as well- delicious bread and treats!

Stopped for lunch today since it is so hard to get a dinner reservation. My friend and I thought it was the very best egg plant dish. The wonderful cook who makes this makes a small pile of this vegetable. It is fantastic. This place evolves nicely.

We ate here for dinner for the first time - you have to make reservations, as they set everything up ahead of time. Previously we had eaten here for lunch several times. Both experiences are great - good pastas, pizzas, pastries, and it's BYOB. It's not a large place so it gets full over lunch - fortunately they have outdoor... More

This is a small corner building that has some of the best Italian foods, desserts, and breads. It is like being in Mom's kitchen. Don't forget it is BYOB and has limited hours.

THE best Italian restaurant in the Harrisburg area. Have been there numerous times and have always had a great meal. It's a BYOB which makes it nice so you can drink what you like with your meal. The various kinds of bread & pastries offered for sale are all very good. Alvaro's is very small so I would suggest reservations... More

Awesome staples everyday for lunch, with fresh bread and pasta. Cookies and pastries make a great take home surprise...seek this place out as it is not easily found.

We were in town for business and wanted a local place to eat. We tried Palumbos but were sorely disappointed. (Anyone who puts canned mushrooms on a pizza should not be in business...) Anyway, we tried Alavaros and were SO impressed! The food was amazing and the service was great. We felt right at home in the store. I can... More

It has been over a year-not my choice. Slipped in last week for a great dinner. A special was braised chicken legs with mushrooms. Also had egg plant-mama's way. This tiny byo in uptown Harrisburg is a real winner.

Alvaro's is essentially a tiny cafe from the streets of Rome transplanted on Green Street in Uptown Harrisburg. The food is fresh, hot, and made to order. The pasta is homemade and everything about this place is authentic Italian down to the gelato. I recommend ordering from the specials menu (you can pick and choose two of any of the... More
