Visited here after walking the dogs around nearby Widdop Reservoir. Great food and choice of beers and view to the rear of the pub is stunning. Place is dog friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

Took mother in law and family for lunch after hearing good things. Person that served us probably the landlord was especially rude when ordering, cocked up the drinks order and seemed to think it was my fault. Personally I don't find rudeness part of the local charm I just find it rude. No instructions about food. In case you go... More
This is the first time that I have not enjoyed my meal hear. I normally go for the liver and mash, but didn't see it on the menu, so I decided to have the chilli, rice & garlic bread, which I have had in the past, but we are talking a few years ago. Anyway this chilli was not good.... More
Essentially, a 'meat eaters' inn, but this, as on many other occasions over the decades, provided great sustenance for my fella and me via a ploughmans', and a fish pie. Don't expect pampering! It's Yorkshire 'grit' all the way. Get on wi it and stop tha whining.
Popped in for dinner after a walk in the area and what an excellent find. Friendly service and the food was top notch and served promptly. The slow cooked lamb just fell off the bone, the roast beef was the chunkiest piece I've ever seen and my lasagne was exactly what I was after, super cheesy. The pub was really... More
My partner and I have been visiting the Pack horse for 18 years. We have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We live in Cardiff and always make a point of coming for lunch when visiting family in Burnley. The landlord can be a little brash at times, but we always took this with a pinch of salt. However our... More
We stopped here for a late Sunday lunch en-route between Luddenden Foot and Edinburgh on the recommendation of our son who said it was a special place. It certainly was and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, as that's what it is. The beer looked great, but with Scotlands draconian drink drive rules my wife was the only one to... More
Great food, friendly welcoming atmosphere, warm in winter and marvellous at any time of the year after a bracing moorland walk. We have been coming here for years.
Okay so I'm a recently turned vegan and it is now normally impossible for me to go out for a walk with my parents followed by a decent meal. They love this place and we've been before but this was the first time I'd been in ages. The menu only had two veggie options both loaded with cheese so I... More
Used to visit here years ago and popped in while on a bimble for a spot of lunch - delighted to find it totally unchanged! Friendly service (although you no longer order at the kitchen door) and great food and beer - will come back sooner next time!
