I would first like to say The White Lion is one of favourite pubs in Hebden Bridge but....had Chateaubriand three weeks previously and enjoyed it so much recommended it to my daughter and partner and booked to go again. Tried ringing from Thursday onwards to pre order the steaks but their landline was out of order so we were unable... More

Just passing one afternoon and asked for a booking that evening - welcoming no friendly and gave us a great table by the time we came in later. Wonderful steak pie. Great lamb shank. Attention to detail with the lime in the G&T - all good. Our waitress was a bit slow and unsure of herself but one of the... More

My partner and I were spending a night away in Hebden Bridge and we're looking for somewhere to eat. The beautiful White Lion building attracted us and the menu whilst a little bit prices looked interesting. We were shown into a room on the left by a friendly waitress and observed two customers sat eating their evening meal with their... More

We arrived and the place was quite busy although most tables appeared to be eating or have eaten, quite a few spare tables. 15 minutes to be given a menu and a further 15 minutes to order. We were told no steaks were available ? Almost an hour after ordering and tables around us who were seated well after us... More

I went with my wife and daughter, having visited twice before and found it okay. On this occasion the lunch time bar food we had was very disappointing especially for the money. The sharing fish platter came with bread which was far from fresh, the breaded scampi was overcooked and the smoked salmon amounted to three very small slices. The... More

Very comfy king size bed with (hooray!!) comfy pillows, not hard bouncy uncomfortable ones! We had two nights with a great nights sleep. Quiet large room, great size with lovely light spacious bathroom with big walk in shower. Complimentary little bath bombs which were a nice touch. Sadly the shower didn't live up to expectations as there was very little... More

When trying to seat a party of six with two babies we couldn't get one large table. We asked for two tables next to each other but saw the man behind the bar say no to seating us which was a shame.

Description
The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards.

Surrounded by true Yorkshire history, the stunning countryside of the Pennines, and the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. Although nestled in the centre of the town near the ‘Yorkshire Bohemian’ shops for which Hebden Bridge is quite famous; the countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn. And that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way, or the more recent Tour De France cycle route. If sight-seeing is more your activity, then the famous sites of Haworth (with its Bronte Sisters and Railway Children heritage) and the World Heritage Site of Salts Mill in Saltaire, are all within very easy access. Close enough to the main rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the White Lion is ideally based for business or leisure.

And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished Boutique bedrooms, with Victorian Roll-Top baths, Sleigh beds, and deep luxurious colours; are complemented by our cosy Courtyard Cottages - perfect for walkers, dog friendly, and with the riverside literally at your front door. All rooms benefit from free Wifi.

Dated 1657, the White Lion is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! We very much look forward to extending a real Yorkshire welcome to you soon...
