Stunner - Perfect batter, chunky white fish & all sitting on top of a generous portion of hot chips. Served up with a smile, (we left with two more smiles, after sharing this little beachfront gem) I’m fussy about my fish, but their cod came...in a tray, crispy and golden. Outside tables, just a stone’s throw from the beach for that archetypal ‘fish & chips en sea’ experience. Must mention the marvelous mushy peas - They’re one of your five a day, after all. A really great find for your Sunday supper. We’ll be back & soon.More
Two people in front of us on the ‘ordering’ side and with lots of fish visible in the unit, things were looking good for a quick meal……
After 30 minutes stood outside, we got our meal. Not been to a ‘plaice’ this slow before.
Food...was tasty when it arrived but they need to get a card payment machine. Who in this current COVID world deals in cash only, especially when the town doesn’t have an atm? Wonder why they are cash only? Other shops in the village have them. Hmmm?More
Whilst my fish and chips were absolutely perfect, I've lowered the score to a 4 because my girlfriend's fish cakes were disappointing - waaaay too much potato and it looked like it had been recooked / reheated several times.
Top 3 fish and chip experiences. Portions not huge but what a largish 6’2” man should eat rather than the bucket of chips which often get portioned up. The chips were great (first of the Cornish potatoes of the year) cooked in dripping. Fish excellent....Visited twice over two weeks, both occasions the quality was consistent. Friendly staff too.More
Lovely food, but the wait for fish and chips was ridiculous - 1 hour and 30 minutes waiting in a queue for a takeaway. This was due to the sheer busyness of the place and staff wasn’t able to deal with the amount of orders...at the time. In the current climate I found it very strange that it was cash only! Everywhere else pretty much was card only and contactless so this didn’t make sense especially with Covid rates being high in the area! This was a pain because then we had to find a cash machine. Why not just accept card payments - so much easier! All in all nice food - not the best fish and chips we have had but ok! The other issue was the opening and closing times - very sporadic - and on some days just didn’t open which is odd given it being high tourist season. Try this place if staying in the area but be prepared to wait!More
There was a long queue but they had a clear system in place to ensure safe ordering and collection. The only I didn’t like about this was when those of us queuing outside were asked to squeeze up so more could join the queue, which...sort of undermined their brilliant system they had going. Otherwise we had no issues queuing; what else do you expect at a Cornwall seaside chippy in August for dinner? I also appreciate their efforts to be covid safe.
The food was brilliant! Well cooked and delicious, was lovely to sit and each on the beach. I would recommend.More
Unfortunately we couldn’t use this chippy as was cash only. There is an ATM in the shop nearby (with a £1.95 charge to withdraw) but unfortunately that wouldn’t accept our card! Attached is a photo of the menu inside the shop. It certainly looked popular...by the number of people queuing though - v conveniently located for fish n chips on the beach!More
