We booked to stay at the waterwheel, hadn't really taken note when booking, it had a restaurant so this was a lovely surprise, we settle in our very clean and comfortable room, recently been re-decorated very nicely. We did eat in the restaurant, food is served between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, the food is delicious, a good menu offering... More

We decided to eat here based on the trip advisor score and comments. We phoned to book as advised on here but when we arrived and asked for our table of 2 we were asked to take our pick of all tables set for 2. unexpected but meant that we did get to choose where we wanted to sit. We... More

Having sought another place for an evening meal that was not too far from where we were staying I came across this place that was only 6 minutes from the premier Inn. I pre booked a table for 7pm and when we arrived we were both amazed at the warm and friendly welcome from the owners and the atmosphere was... More

This was our second visit to the Waterwheel, and we were not disappointed. Francesca and Mark made us feel at home immediately, as did their lovely Labrador Kernow, such a clever dog. We had booked to eat in the restaurant on our first night, and the food was so good, we returned from our day out to enjoy another great... More

Well, this was just fabulous as usual. The food was beautiful, good choices and served so fresh. The grounds and gardens are excellent, just like being in paradise. A very good evening and highly recommended.

Go! You arrive to a rather uneven carpark and wonder what the restaurant will be like. The entrance is like going in someone's back door, you wonder more ... Then you teach the comfy bar and the wonderfully cheerful, friendly staff. The loos are magnificent! The choice of drinks wide and the menu limited but varied. The restaurant is sophisticated... Description
The Waterwheel Inn was built in the late 1700s. It is steeped in the industrial history of Cornwall as it was once a tin smelting house and then involved in clay drying. It is set in a beautiful wooded valley next to St Austell's White River and just 10 minutes walk from the town. The restaurant has been recently refurbished and is elegant but informal with exposed granite walls, oak floor and a log fire for cold winter evenings. We serve unpretentious, plentiful, freshly prepared meals including a 2 and 3 course menu for £14.95/£17.50, main meals from £10.00 and an a la carte menu with fresh local fish and seafood specials, plus extra mature chargrilled steaks.
