We enjoyed a delicious dinner on the patio at Shank's after a long drive. While the menu is limited, it's plenty good. We both had the Friday special, crab cakes on greens and split the loaded nachos for an app. My husband appreciated the good craft beer selections on tap. The service was excellent! We look forward to coming back the next time we visit. The hours are a bit wonky (close at 8 pm on Friday and not open for dinner on Saturday). Best to look up or call in advance.

Had a great dinner and was surprised they had a duet with guitar and vocalist. The music was great with a wide vide variety of genres. The server was incredibly friendly and made sure the drinks never were empty. Definitely stop by.

Yesterday was probably our sixth visit or more in the past year and I should have written a review sooner. First the building just oozes with history. Then there is the wait staff. Everyone of them have so much enthusiasm and are so pleasant you would believe they were part owners. Next the drinks. The draft beer selection is excellent and the tap system is clean, fresh and cold. The mixed drink selection on the menu is limited but they are well made and the liquor level is good. Then the food. WOW Everything we have ever had has been excellent. You can tell everything is made from scratch and only top quality ingredients are used. A few examples. The beef barley soup was the best I have ever had in my 76 years and I am a soup connoisseur! The shrimp corn chowder is delicious. The Beef on a Weck is amazing. Spiced shrimp perfectly cooked. Crab cakes delicious, just enough filler to hold them together and huge amounts of crab. Salads with a wide variety of fresh greens and excellent homemade dressings. And if I didn’t mention the great shrimp flatbread which my wife loved she wouldn’t forgive me. Lastly the prices. Good mixed drinks $10 or less, crab cake sandwich $12, dozen steamed shrimp $10. I could go on but you get the idea. My mouth is watering and I’m ready to go back.

The folks at Shanks Tavern were so great! We enjoyed a brew and an app there because they are the oldest continuously operating tavern - and, our B&B hosts told us, the “best neighborhood tavern around” - in Lancaster County and are right by the river trail in this cool, historic area of Marietta. The staff was immediately friendly, the building very historic and interesting, the beer good, and our hummus platter tasty. So…we went back for dinner! Same experience — friendly, cozy, good brews, tasty food. And, as we walked out, the owner hollered out the upstairs window to “watch where we walk” LOL A great place — we’ll go back next time we’re in the area, for sure!

Went here after riding the Northeast trail, Wait staff were pleasant, food was quick, outside atmosphere was perfect for a fall day. Husband had shrimp bisque and beef on a wreck. I had a burger and pepper cabbage. Everything was delicious!

We love Shanks. We visit them about 2 or 3 times a month. The specials are always fantastic and then prices are unbeatable. Our favorite food items are the burgers, the chili and the key lime cheesecake, but all of their items are phenomenal. The beer specials are also great. You wont be disappointed with anything here.

The food was good. The burgers were good and the Tapenade was good. This is a fun Old Time Tavern with friendly service. The food is good, not the best but not bad. The menu is not huge. The prices are very reasonable.

Thank you for stopping by Shank's Tavern. As you said we are an "Old Time Tavern" with a simple, freshly prepared menu. Our burgers are always fresh meat, never frozen and chargrilled to perfection, our salads are prepared one at at time and all our salad dressings, dips, sauces, hummus and soups are all prepared in house. Did we mention our extensive craft beer selection? Or our great selection of bourbons, tequilas and Irish whiskeys? We also have live music three nights a week! We hope you will take the time to stop by again. Cheers!

On a recent visit to Shank's, several of us complained about our margaritas. Tammy listened to our complaints, sorted through the facts and came up with a way to satisfy us. She went out of her way to make her customers happy. She is a true professional and we will be back:0) Thank you Tammy.

Everyone in our group had delicious food. the service was excellent. the brew selection was very nice. This tavern had a warm and old time feel about it. the ambiance brought back memories. It was a very friendly place. the tavern was about to celebrate its 205th anniversary! I was visiting a friend that lives nearby. If I were living there I would be a frequent customer. loved that place.

Was interested in Shanks as it is an old school local bar. Guess I thought someone might speak with me but that was not to be. Will bring friends the next time I am there and will ignore all the locals. Food was good, had the special soup Crab, corn, asparagus chowder...excellent followed it with a grilled meat loaf sandwich, what can I say it was a grilled meat loaf sandwich, I enjoyed it. To my right, just over the back of the person sitting next to me was a man that had been vaccinated with a phonograph needle, for you youngens a phonograph play vinyl records and the needle is what contacted the record, it is from yesteryear. He never stopped talking. The place is quaint, I like the atmosphere just don't go there along unless you want to be alone.

We thank-you for the compliment on our food. All our soups, salad dressings, dips and sauces are made in house. Our burgers, which are very popular, and always made using fresh ground beef and chargrilled. Our salads are made one at a time as well as our Flatbread Pizzas. True . . . We are an old time, old school tavern and yes, sometimes our regulars can get a little chatty. If you think about it, it adds to the charm of an old time family owned bar that is celebrating it's 205th Anniversary in 2019. Thank your for checking in.

Historic local tavern. Not fancy but quaint with small town charm. Food and service were good for tavern food. Prices were reasonable. Different specials nightly. Also, open mic night so check before going.

Like others here, I read all the great reviews about Shank’s but fail to see the appeal each time I venture here for dinner. On a recent Thursday night our service at a table mere steps from the bar was inconsistent at best. We frequently had to flag down our server aka the bartender. Plus if you wish to sit at the bar or at a table near the door on a cold night - good luck keeping warm. There are no entrees - just apps, burgers, flatbread pizzas, salads or sandwiches. For someone that restricts carbs and is selective in the type of food I eat, the menu here can be challenging to find something to select. I did order the “famous” chili and found it to be one of the blandest I ever had anywhere. My entree salad was ok but again my options were limited. But the big issue I had the night we were there was sitting at a table near the bar that had a direct line of sight to the food prep area. The food prep folks were consistently NOT using gloves when prepping ready to eat food - a clear food safety violation. Read the local restaurant inspections to see how often restaurants are cited for this violation. So somehow I’m missing what other posters find appealing here. For me, I’ll stick to McCleary’s.

Hi There . . . Wow this is a tough one. Perhaps the charm of a 205 year old continuously operated family owned tavern is not for you, and that is OK. We promote ourselves as an establishment with a laid back atmosphere with, upscale liquor, great beer and simple fare that is freshly prepared. Nothing more. We make all our sauces, dips, salad dressings, soups, desserts etc. in house. Our salads are made one at time, per order. Our burgers are always fresh ground beef, never frozen, and chargrilled to perfection. We also regret that you did not express your dietary restrictions to your server, as we can put anything that is on our menu on top of a salad, instead of bread or a roll, for a mere charge of $2.50. Not sure what you thought you saw with regards to our kitchen while you were sitting two rooms away, but our staff does follow current food preparation safety codes. You are clearly a fan of McCleary’s . . . And that is definitely OK. All of the establishments in Marietta have an awesome rapport with each other and don’t hesitate to send patrons to each other’s establishments if we do not have what they are looking for. Kind of how Marietta got the nick name “The Fel’s Point of Central Pennsylvania.” We are very glad you found a spot in Marietta that does suit your tastes. Just sad it is not the old world corner tavern atmosphere of Shank’s. Cheers!

As soon as you walked in the door you were hit with noise...very loud noise. The large room was packed and way too loud for us. A person working there noticed we were about to walk out and stopped us asking if we would like to sit in the small back room even though it wasn't open. We did and it made a world of difference. We were the only ones in that room the entire time. This tavern was established in 1814 and I loved the looks inside and out. I ordered the philly cheese steak and my husband ordered the chicken quesadillas. I gave him half of mine and he gave me half of his. The cheese steak was very dry and the steak tasted like it may have been marinated in something. I didn't care for the taste. The quesadillas tasted very good but were a bit on the greasy side so they dripped all over you. The best part of my meal was the Murphy's Stout I had and the side salad. It's always nice to find a place that has lettuce salads and not the mixed greens that I call a weed-eater salad.
