I cannot believe this is the first time we have visited this little gem of a restaurant. If you like German food this is the place for you. There are other menu options besides food with a German flare. We started with the German nachos...More

A Sunday night dinner at Max's and you know you are in for authentic German specialties, just by looking at your fellow diners; German Grandma's with the whole brood in tow. What could be better than schnitzel and beer, go for it.

The Einlauf soup is SO good; haven't had a bad meal here for lunch or dinner; portions are sufficient; my sister has been to Germany and thinks the food is equal to meals she has eaten in many German regions

Wonderful staff for a private (memorial) gathering for our sister (mom, grandmother, and aunt). Food was okay. Building history was interesting. The ghosts did not bother us.

This is a quaint neighborhood German restaurant in old North Side that serves good German food. It's a comfortable place in an old building that feels like a throwback to the early 1900s when Pittsburgh's North Side was Allegheny City. I took visitors to Pittsburgh...More

I visited Max's last Friday after reading the reviews and seeking good German Food. I was disappointed. I ordered the German sampler plate. The Sauerbraten was not very good. Two wafer thin pieces of dry roast beef with some type of sauce on top. Also...More

Everyone needs to put Max's on the top of the list when visiting Pittsburgh. The food is excellent and gives you options that we hadn't seen since our trip to Germany. It gives that local neighborhood bar vibe with a turn of the century feel....More
