The food scene in Chucktown has gotten so strong and diverse that it's making it hard for individual places to stand out. In another, less gastronomically mature city, The Grocery might be a can't miss restaurant. But, with so many options within walking distance, it's...More

Food wise, probably my favorite meal we had in Charleston. Grilled peaches starter was absolutely amazing. We shared the Charleston seafood pilau which was delicious and plenty for two. Banana pudding for dessert was the perfect ending for a southern meal. Would definitely recommend this...More

The atmosphere is a little loud, but totally worth the food experience! The service was on point! Would definitely recommend to anyone in Charleston!

Wonderful locally sourced veggies, fruits, seafood, and meats make up the menu at The Grocery. Many of the appetizers can be made vegetarian to suit individual dietary needs. Grilled peaches with peppers? I'm in! The cocktail and wine offerings are original and inspired. The wait...More

Went in for an early meal, sat at the bar; with a clear street view. Course after course of well thought-out dishes, with fresh and local ingredients and wonderfully balanced flavors. The bone marrow creme brûlée was an amazing interpretation. The heirloom tomatoes pulled it...More

Do yourself a favor and split the low-country seafood pilau a local Charleston cuisine , it has some of the best fried catfish I have ever had. The seafood is perfectly cooked and the taste is outstanding. The Okra- Three ways cannot be missed and...More

Not very busy on this Sunday evening, but still a good atmosphere. This review is limited by the fact that we all had the duck, which was well cooked, though not a traditional "confit". Excellent bread!

The Grocery has been open for years but we never got around to eating there. Big mistake! The restaurant is locate between King and St. Phillips with a very understated entrance. Some parking is provided but we think you must get there earlier to snag...More

This place was perfect for a rainy day! They have parking on site. I’m not sure if they have valet parking - they didn’t have it on the Sunday night that I visited, but it didn’t matter when we visited. Great food! I love the...More

The food was definitely 4 star, but fine tuning service would improve the otherwise fine restaurant. I reserve 5 stars for experiences that I would want to repeat the next day. Our dinner was good but not 5 star. The green tomato dirty martini was...More

Description
Evoking memories of the small-town grocery, executive chef and owner Kevin Johnson has created a gathering place of warmth and familiarity, with a menu based on seasonal ingredients available from local and regional farmers and fishermen he knows and has worked with for many years. The Grocery’s kitchen is stocked with house-made charcuterie and fresh, local fish and seafood, and the restaurant accommodates an in-house canning program to preserve fresh produce for the menu. An extensive cocktail and wine list are available as is craft beer on tap, and a wood-burning oven heightens the cordial atmosphere in the former furniture warehouse.
