Unfortunately it is permanently closed. Have been waiting for a reopen, however it hasn't happened yet. No one ate there March 1. Closed at least 2 years.

The food was fairly good. Good southern home style "soul" food. Worth a try but the restaurant definitely needs some updating. Old and broken down looking. Ceiling tiles nasty. Needs a good update.

Stopped here on a road trip. It's 5 minutes off of I-26. We are so glad we ate here instead of the chain restaurants nearer the Interstate. The place my be slightly run down but the food was excellent, the portions were big and the...family that runs the restaurant made us feel so welcome. Many of the locals stop for take out. While we were here we met the entire family. This is the kind of restaurant and the kind of kindness and decency that unfortunately doesn't exist much anymore.More

Tried the Brown Derby after recommendations from Yelp and trip adviser. Very good fried chicken. Fresh out of the fryer. If all collards tasted like theirs I'd have eaten a lot more collards. Very good. The Mac and cheese as pretty good and the rice...and gravy was excellent if a tad salty. The place looks underwhelming, to say the least, both inside and outside. But the food is good.More

Stopping overnight in Orangeburg and decided we needed South Carolina BBQ. Had already researched and decided on the Brown Derby. Arrived and went into the restaurant. Yes it's a little tired looking on the premises so we were doing takeout. A couple of patrons waiting...for their order and the counter lady motioned for us to come to the front to place our order. She was very pleasant and we ordered the rib dinner & pulled pork dinner. Waited 10 minutes and our takeout arrived. Took it back to the hotel and spread it out. Very tasty rib dinner with 3 sides. The ribs had a unique mustard, vinegar sauce, very tasty. Included yams which might have been dessert they were so sweet. The collards included big chunks of country ham, yummo, and the braised cabbage was very good as well. My spouse enjoyed her pulled pork dinner so all in all very tasty. For 8$ per dinner can't go wrong. Would recommend for takeout.More

Once you get past the run down appearance outside as well as inside , the food will overcome your initial doubt. The fried chicken is one of the best I have tasted, and is complemented by wonderful sides - especially the hash rice, yams, and...collared greens. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to not having a choice of ribs (none were available this night) and neither was there any ice tea! Service attitude was disappointing and not friendly.More

We didn't get a chance to eat because the service was so bad. Watched many others that came after us come and go. After 25-30 mins of this we just left. The food looked very good.😕

Lowcountry cuisine is the cooking traditionally associated with the South Carolina Lowcountry and the Georgia coast I have eaten ribs all over the South. The ribs at The Brown Derby, with the Carolina style sauce are among the best, if not, the best. They were...'fall off the bone' tender and the Carolina style sauce was delicious. The menu offers something for everyone, all homemade, all delicious and all more than reasonably priced. The source for this great food may be attributed, although I am not sure, to the picture hanging on the wall of the mother or grandmother. The macaroni I had was a special treat unlike any macaroni I have ever had. The people who served was could not have been friendlier and helpful...real nice people. The appearance of the building is a little tired but the don't let this deter you from going in and experience some authentic and wonderful Lowcountry Southern food.More

Pork chops (smothered & fried), lima beans, rutabagas, cabbage. Visited 5//25/16, 8 p.m., which was 30 min. before closing on Wed. We were greeted with a smile & helpfulness in selecting from menu. There was no one rushing us, or telling us they were about...to close. We ate in. A few customer came toward closing time, and each got their order in. Well worth the money. Plenty of food on my plate. I felt special getting homemade food. I'll make a point to visit again when going through Orangeburg.More

Ribs were good, but not as good as the pork, which rates close to excellent [without the sauce - which they put on way too much, so tell them to go easy on it, or not at all. My lady mentioned a couple times that...the lima beans were best she has ever had. The corn is good too, as are the yams. Its 3 miles off the highway toward OrangeburgMore

This is just your good old -fashioned local South Carolina BBQ place. They have lots of different choices on the menu; however, they only cook certain items each day. We had the rib dinner. You get three sides with each full meal that you order....I got mac & cheese, corn bread, and greens. The greens were good and the other two were just OK. The ribs were big and full of meat. They were cooked like baby backs in that the meat came right off the bone. Like most St. Louis ribs, they were a little fatty. You order from the counter and then a server brings your food to you. The place was nothing fancy, but the food was good and the people nice. All in all it was OK.More

Despite the not so good reviews we decided to give them a try .. We love BBQ and Soul food and we're all for supporting local business owners .. Not the inside isn't super fancy, but it was clean, cool, and it was pleasant .....The service was excellent! The food was hot and fresh! Husband had the ribs and I had the Fried Chicken .. Sides were all good .. Took a piece of red velvet cake back to the hotel :) ..More
