I needed a decent breakfast before making a court appearance in Ortonville.
Ortonville does not have anyplace open at 7 or 8 a.m., so you can go to
Milbank, another 10 miles to the west, or you can squint real hard as you
look for...this place and see if it's open. There's no lighted sign, but the
little cardboard plaque in the window will say "Open." You walk in and
see the tables are all bunched together for the locals. Take a booth or
a stool at the counter. Order your breakfast off the list of items on the wall.
2 eggs, toast, your choice of meat, and coffee (all served on charming
matched sets of good china) will set you back about 8 bucks. The
hard part is refraining from getting up to help the 90-year-old twin
sisters who run the place.
Go ahead - step back in time about 40 years. It will do you good and
get your day off to a good start.More
