Always a pleasure to visit this pub friendly staff good food lunch or dinner . Nice choice on the menu. A very relaxed feel with well spaced tables. Good for families or couples with a traditional feel. Would recommend

We love this traditional and welcoming pub but don't visit it enough. We booked a table for five of us last Saturday and weren't disappointed. Great choice of menu with dishes to suit every palate. I chose the chicken and hock cobbler which with the fresh veges was cooked to perfection. We ate in the restaurant but for an informal... More

The service in the restaurant lets it down badly because the location, the building itself and the food, when you finally get it, can be amazing, in particular the steaks. Having visited this restaurant several times the service has let it down each time. During my last visit they forgot about my wives starter. If you sit in the corridor... More

Two of us visited the Ship for a Succulent steak with pepper and brandy sauce followed by brûlée. Very nice. Lovely atmosphere and some unusual meals on menu, that all sounded tempting...

My father and I were travelling back to Sherborne from Bournemouth and ended up coming past The Ship Inn. Having seen the pub before but not having stopped, we decided to stop and chance our luck at a table. Being a bank holiday Monday we weren't expecting to get seated, but upon our arrival we were told that they did... More

Happy speculative choice for a mid-week journey break on or near A303. Easy parking across road from Inn with large grassy patch for spaniel to 'stretch her legs' on the long lead. As we were driving, only had mains from an excellent wide ranging menu. Pleasant helpful service. As with z spaniel, we ate in the bar area - several... More

Been here for meals several times now. Always high standard and different menus each time. (Two Spanish friends from Barcelona loved it when we took them a couple of months ago). Great attentive and friendly service as ever from Gavin and his staff.

We were on our tour of friends in the south-west, and so we paid back their hospitality, in each case, by taking them out to a pub or restaurant of their choice. As a result, we had several nice meals but the one we had here was the best by far. Its reputation was proved by the fact that as... More

We had dinner for four, two nights running - the building is an old inn, great decor and ambience and excellent, friendly, efficient service, with Gavin running the show very well indeed. Not a single meal was disappointing. Main courses: duck with rosti potatoes, ham chicken and leek cobbler, sea food platter, sea bass. Desserts: summer pudding, whitechocolate creme brulee,... More
