First of all I’d like to say that we were staying at the Rosedale Hotel and that every morning we received the most fantastic fully “Scottish” breakfast every morning but only dined at the restaurant once.
The restaurant itself it’s small but beautifully decorated with a great playlist in the background (not too loud if anyone is worried) creating a nice atmosphere with views across Portree Harbour.
We ordered the prawn and monk fishcake and the 24 hour slow cooked beef short rib and barley risotto.
The food was the best quality we received on Skye and you could tell the chefs had a love for their work and a great flavour palate.
The wine was great, staff incredibly friendly and good at their jobs particularly the Italian gentleman. In the COVID/post-Brexit times lots of restaurants are sadly understaffed and staff members overworked and stressed however the staff here went above and beyond. The service was amongst the best we’ve had in recent times.
Would highly recommend this restaurant for the “fine dining” feel but was great prices.

Our 3rd restaurant during a 6 day stay in Portree. By far the nicest so far. The Rosedale doesn’t look too inspiring from the outside but persevere! We were seated in the small bar area as the hotel/restaurant was making a proper effort on social distancing. The service was good and friendly (Michael?) and the food was lovely. Proper restaurant fare rather than the burger or fish and chip options elsewhere. And not too pricey compared with the other options either.
And to the rather grumpy couple who left without ordering having complained the bar was too hot (it wasn’t), you missed out on some very nice food!

My wife and I had a great meal in the bar area of the restaurant whilst staying in Portree last week.
Staff were super friendly - the barman/waiter had a good chat with us, and was happy to recommend a few different dishes and local drinks.
Food itself was delicious - the mussels starter in particular stood out.
We'd happily recommend the restaurant for dinner if you're staying in Portree.

Disappointing meal on a Saturday evening. The mains were pricey ÂŁ22-ÂŁ23 but the venison came without potatoes so a side of new potatoes were ÂŁ6 and the few veg were really hard so the side of green beans were tasty but cost ÂŁ7!! The venison itself was tasty and cooked well. Friend had monkfish and prawn risotto, which was tasty but seafood was extremely minimal. The wine was nice but not chilled so we had to ask for a ice bucket. The waiter was very apologetic. We weren't asked if the food was OK until after we had finished, the waitress seemed inexperienced and uninterested. We were a table of 4 seated with banquet seats but the table was so narrow we were constantly bumping feet and couldn't move our seats. We opted not to stay for any desert - all of which were ÂŁ10 each! We went to the co-op and bought a cake.... We are from Aberdeen so are used to high prices but this was excessive. We'd had a delicious lunch elsewhere in Skye the day before so this was sadly a disappointment. The hotel had recently opened for the season and everywhere smelt of paint so perhaps needed a bit of time to get up to speed.

I visited the Rosedale as part of a group of four (two couples/households) and we all enjoyed the beautifully presented food we were served. I can recommend my cod veloute starter and beef main, and the meringue and chocolate marquise desserts triggered rave reviews from my dining partners.
We also enjoyed the spectacular views of the harbour as we ate.
That said, Service was efficient but disconnected, and there was no real ambience or atmosphere. That’s why I’d say that based on this experience the restaurant is good - but not very good.

Me and my partner visited during the August discount scheme.
My pork belly starter was cooked perfectly, the beef main was also braised so well that it fell apart on the fork. The flavours of both meat dishes were incredible.
My parners vegetarian food was tasty and had a lot of thought put into it compared to a lot of places in the Highlands (simple pastas etc). The starter had cheese as a main component so vegans may need to call ahead, the main was vegan friendly.
The staff were very friendly and respected the Covid requirements with regards to masks, cleaning and distancing.
Overall it is a great gem in Portree.

Fish cakes and lamb shank totally devoid of flavour. The lamb shank was very dry and served in a tiny plate filled with tasteless beans. Sticky toffee pudding was passable and well presented.

I understand that this hotel and restaurant is under new management, having reopened in May.
They have obviously recruited well, because the attentive staff delivered some great tasting plates from the talented kitchen team.
I had scallops which were cooked to perfection as a starter, followed by the venison which was perfectly cooked with a tasty sauce. I didn't have room for a dessert, but had a delicious homemade petit four with my coffee. It was a raspberry filled chocolate- melt in your mouth!
I will certainly be back!

During our ten day stay we dined twice at the Rosedale Hotel.
Service was excellent: including the staff in reception and at table: first by Peter and secondly by James. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were keen to enhance the eating experience in every way they could, in a warm and friendly manner.
The food was delicious. It was the cod dish that brought us back, but we also enjoyed the venison: both beautifully cooked and presented.
After the main course, on the second occasion, we had dessert and two of us shared the delightful cheese board.
Our perfect experience was enhanced by the wonderful view from the window, which included a full rainbow perfectly reflected in the water.
A truly magical evening. Thank you to all concerned. We have had no hesitation in recommending you to others.

A wonderful meal in a fantastic location with amazing service.
Firstly let’s talk about the welcome each, member of staff from the reception team to the restaurant staff welcomed us so warmly.
Great food highly - recommend the scallops, Piotor always at hand serving great wines through the evening.
For the whisky connoisseur here you will find a bottle of Raasay whisky; enjoy.

My wife and I managed to get a last minute table here on a Sunday and we were not disappointed.
My wife has a severe nut allergy, and the vast majority of restaurants we go to these days do not take responsibility (if a place can’t guarantee there are no nuts in their food, then how can they say “handmade on the premises”?…)
On informing the waitress, she visited the kitchen to speak to the chef and came back to say everything would be fine and - this never happens… - even said that if we wanted the dish on the menu that had pine nuts in it, the chef could just make it and not put the nuts in! It’s hard to say how refreshing that was.
All that aside, the food was also excellent. I think it was the best lamb I’ve had in a restaurant, and my wife really enjoyed her salmon.
Would recommend.

We dined 9th of April, the only restaurant that had tables available on the day. When we arrived I could smell a strong odour in the bar area of the restaurant. Service was excellent, staff were very hospitable and kind however, meals were totally overpriced. I ordered venision and with portion of side potatoes, I paid ÂŁ29. Even some of the luxury restaurants in London don't charge for sides ÂŁ7. The portion size was very small and not value for the money.

The hotel has a great position overlooking the harbour, unfortunately there is no designated parking at the hotel. Our room was very comfortable though it was strange there was only 1 bedside table when in fact there was room for one both sides. We ate in the restaurant on our first night. The menu on offer is very limited, 4 choices, one of which was vegetarian. I had the hake which was very good but there was nothing my husband wanted, he prefers what he calls 'not messed with' food. The chef kindly prepared a double portion of fish goujons from the child menu which he said was also very good. We did think however that it was a bit expensive. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice.

I visited here with my daughter and it was so wonderful we booked straight away for the following night. My daughter has Coeliac Disease and the staff and wonderful chef could not be any more accommodating if they tried. We had the same meals two days running and they were obviously the same but tasted so different as the chef put a different twist on them the 2nd day and it was just amazing. Also, he made my daughter gluten free sticky toffee pudding, something she had never before eaten, and she loved it and he also made her a strawberry dessert with shortcake which was equally yummy.
We have been fortunate enough to eat in some amazing places around the world, Burj Al Arab and Bellagio are some, but I can honestly say that none have been as attentive to my daughter’s dietary needs and the food and fantastic service from their amazing staff rivals all these other places.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and if I ever visit the beautiful Isle of Skye again then I’m eating here daily.

Booked this as a special treat whilst staying in Portree, when we entered we realised it was mainly a dining room for guests of the hotel. One old dear came up to our table and started asking about certain dishes we had as they were thinking of ordering them the following evening. The food in general was OK, but my partner had the beef which was undercooked and tough, I tried the fishcake which was mainly comprised of potatoes and quite bland. Had the hake for main which was nice but accompanied by another large dollop of bland mash potato. The dining room itself was nice and had views over the harbour, staff were excellent and very attentive.
