Whilst visiting Skye, we planned to stop off in Portree and with a bit of foresight we booked dinner at this restaurant. I wasn’t aware when I booked the restaurant that is part of the Bosville Hotel. I should stress that this wasn’t a problem, it’s just from experience hotel restaurant can be harder to get a reservation. The restaurant is in a great location, overlooking the harbour. There are a couple of public car parks within easy walking distance and I would suggest parking in one of these instead of trying to find space around the hotel. The COVID-19 rules were firmly in place and I feel that the restaurant executed these really well. At the time of our visit it was not mandatory to wear face masks inside restaurant, however this was made a condition of entry and made me feel a lot safer. We were asked to use hand sanitiser upon entry and wear our masks until we were seated at the table. If we left the table for any reasons we were required to put our masks back on. The tables were situated to provide a good safe distance. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We shared the meat platter for starters, which was a selection of cured venison, beef and chicken. I am quite fussy with food and I really enjoyed this. For my main I had a venison burger, which was well presented and tasted great. For the amount of food and the quality, I feel that this restaurant was good value for money. I would certainly return.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. We take the health and safety of our guests (and staff) with the utmost seriousness and have worked extremely hard to adhere to all of the changes to Covid policy and procedures as they are announced. Thank you very much for taking the time to recognise how well we are doing this. It's really gratifying to hear, that, despite all of the Covid measures in place it did not detract from your enjoyment of your meal or our service. We would certainly love to have you back any time.

We had early dinner here. The food was AMAZING, particularly the Thai Seafood Broth Noodle, the Cold Smoked Meat Platter, and the homemade bread and seaweed butter was spectacular. Staff wore masks and hand sanitizer was available. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Definitely book as impossible to walk in. We would return the next time in Portree. This restaurant participated in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme so we were pleasantly surprised to have spent less on the bill.

We arrived 15 minutes early for our booked dinner (we also forgot to change the booking from 4 people to 2 people (!) however this proved not to be a problem). Eilidh greeted us and got us to a table early and without fuss. I had asparagus, samphire and pistachio salsa for starter, wow! My husband had haggis stack for his, again "wow" the smoothest haggis we've ever had. For mains I had Atlantic cod absolutely delish and my husband had the venison burger which was also delicious. We really wanted dessert but could not fit one in even to share sadly but what we saw going out looked scrumptious. We had the pinot grigio wine at ÂŁ22 a bottle because we could not bring ourselves to pay ÂŁ30 (!) for a bottle of sauvignon, we thought this a little excessive but it seems to be the same in most restaurants in Portree. The service we received from all the staff was excellent throughout the evening. Our food was delivered quickly and removed swiftly once we were finished, which I really like. As our table was not booked after us we were able to stay for as long as we wanted which enabled us to have another bottle of wine and enjoy the relaxed and informal atmosphere. Altogether we had a COVID compliant, safe, wonderful, tasty meal with lovely wine and we were looked after very well all evening. Thank you to Eilidh and all the team who looked after us.

The meal was good, not great, but the service was overwhelmed, really taking away from it. I realize with the pandemic it’s very tough on restaurants, which is why I didn’t give a lower score, but this was the worst service I’ve had during a 2 week trip in Scotland (and everyone dealing with the pandemic). My starter was cured salmon, which was a very generous portion but the taste was unimaginative. The main was excellent, oatmeal coated cod. Nice flavor to it. The food would have been a high 4/low 5 but the service was challenging. They forgot our water and my daughters milk after ordering (we got our 2 other drinks). Once served, not only wasn’t checked on but impossible to catch a server for some more water. When our table was finally bussed, asked for the bill but after 15 mins had to hunt down a different server to get the bill (and wait another 5-10 mins to get the credit card reader). These service snafus really took away from the meal.

Hi Lloyd, Thank you for a very understanding review. As you say it is a difficult time for the whole hospitality industry Hi Lloyd, Thank you for your feedback. As you say yourself, the pandemic has been tough on restaurants. And with the "generous portions", "excellent mains" and "nice flavours" - we are unsure what else we could of done outside of the intense pressures our team is currently facing. Businesses like ours will not survive without your patronage and assigning our limitations with a lower score due to the pandemic has placed on us is confusing. We hope you make your way back up to us in fairer weather - where we can hopefully turn that 4* into a 5*. Thank you.

Visited the restaurant this evening. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, clean and staff were friendly. The food was nice but the entire experience was ruined due to the lack of basic service. We waited 1 hour for our plates to be cleared after our first and only course. We didn’t get the opportunity to order any more drinks or desert because we were just so fed up waiting with our empty plates in front of us. We asked the waitress to see a menu and asked to be served but she was just too busy to help us. I would have been better just walking into the kitchen and asking for it myself, at least I wouldn’t have wasted an hour of my time doing nothing but watching the staff shouting back and forth at each other being completely unable to manage the restaurant correctly. We booked this several weeks in advance as it’s our first time on Isle of Skye so it’s a shame we chose to go here. I would of rather a crappy venue with great service and good food. To the, I think American waitress, I know you could tell we were fed up but it wasn’t fun sitting waiting for so long and you were trying to be nice.. maybe ask the the other girl to stop humming the Jurassic park theme tune and serve us some food! Recommendation.. only book if it’s dead quiet.

Having worked on the night of your visit I know that your party did not wait 1 hour for your main dishes to be cleared. Upon arrival you were made aware that there was a time restriction on the table of 90 minutes. when you were first asked to order you advised that you weren't ready. When you eventually placed your order it was almost 15 minutes into the allocated time for your table. By your calculations this would indicate that in the space of 15 minutes you had placed your order, received your main meals and then finished them. As you can see from the other reviews that have been left for our restaurant, our outstanding service is one of the highlights, I'm sorry you seem to think otherise.

Food was exceptional. However, a lot of negatives. We booked for 5.45pm knowing the table had to be back for 7.15pm. When ordering a pasta dish my sister asked for no pepper as she is allergic, when her food arrived she had one bite and noticed pepper instantly. The chef hadn’t added pepper to it but forgot that there was pepper in the previously made sauce. By the time her new meal arrived we had all finished. I ordered a side of bread with my main course which they never brought. I asked them when my meal arrived at the bread never came until I was finished my meal. We were offered desserts and more drinks at 7.10 then at 7.20 we were told that they needed the table back and we should finish up ASAP, as she loudly told the people who had arrived “that’s your table we just need them to finish”. The waitress was very loud and stormed up and down the restaurant loudly shouting to other waitresses that she loved them and that they were “totally in control” countless times whilst we were there. There was no apology or reduction in bill price despite the poor service and serving my sister an allergen. It’s a shame as the food was lovely, location great and restaurant has lots of potential. I sent this feedback privately two weeks ago and received no reply.

Dear Kirsty, please accept our sincere apologies for your experience, which was well below the usual service we strive to provide to all our customers. We have all felt added pressure as a result of all the new measurements we have had to implement as a result of covid. This is by no means an excuse and we have spoken to the staff member responsible about their behavior. I'm so glad you enjoyed your meals, and hope you'll dine with us again. I'm sincerely sorry that you haven't received a response to the feedback you sent privately. Can I ask to whom it was addressed, as any issue regarding the restaurant should have been passed to me. Thanks.

Was recommended this restaurant whilst visiting Skye, unfortunately it did not live up to the recommendation or the reviews. Food was average at best and was overpriced for what you got. Had a better venison burger at Murrayfield for half the price! Cod with an oatmeal crumb was dry and fish overcooked slightly. Sauce over powered everything. Setting and atmosphere ok given COVID restrictions. Staff welcoming however felt rushed and barely put fork and knife on plate when was given bill. Still had half a drink to finish and card machine appeared. Would not recommend or visit again. Other places close by better value.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that your experience with us didn't meet your expectations. We have a bistro-style menu to try and cater to a wide variety of tastes, and we pride ourselves on the freshness of the locally sourced ingredients. We also try to offer good value for money. At the time of your visit, there were as you have mentioned, Covid restrictions in place, and unfortunately, this meant that there was a time limit on your visit, and in accordance with the law, we had to close at 8pm, apologies of this was not made clear to you when you arrived.

We came here for tea after staying at the rosedale across the road. The menu had a good range for pescatarians and vegetarians, as well as the staff being lovely. I didn’t catch the waitress’ name but she was helpful and super friendly throughout. Food was good, my girlfriend had a seafood broth that was tasty with a bit of spice, I had a salmon fillet with green beans and patatas bravas. Her main was very tasty and mine was perfectly acceptable. There’s only so well you can cook a plain salmon fillet I suppose. Sticky toffee pudding with the whisky pairing for dessert was exceptional, whoever made that needs a knighthood. The toilets weren’t that good and the atmosphere was a bit strange, maybe slightly too light but I can’t place my finger on it. The food was pretty good on the whole, although the mains came suspiciously quickly. This place was a good stop for some good food and friendly service, I’d come back.

Thank you very much for your review. Glad to hear that both you and your girlfriend enjoyed your meals. I have passed on your recommendation of a knighthood to the chef, and they would love to accept! Sorry that you found the toilets less than satisfactory, these, like all public areas are subject to the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness. With regard to the atmosphere, I can only offer as an explanation, the Scottish governments ban on the playing of background music in all pubs, bars and restaurants. Delighted to hear that despite these minor issues you would pay us a return visit. Thank you.

Surprisingly busy for January. Hadn’t booked but given choice of sitting in Merchant Bar or the main restaurant. Skye draft lager was a nice start. Not too boozy. Nicely refreshing. Onto the meal. Mussels were superb. Ditto the venison burgers. Seafood and fennel stew starter yummy. Chicken schnitzel less so (bit dirt oily). Partnering beetroot and goats cheese yummy. Deserts fine an bill a very reasonable £150 ish with a tip.

My family and I spent 6 nights at the Bosville and had several meals in the restaurant as many restaurants in town were still closed amid the Covid pandemic. The staff are genuinely lovely and friendly and the food is delicious - slightly limited menu but understandably so. We really enjoyed our meals and appreciated the lengths staff have gone to to adapt - serving breakfast to the table instead of the previous buffet, table spacing and so on. One major issue however: no masks or visors seen on any staff at any point, even when serving food and leaning over diners. As other restaurants in town and indeed across Scotland are going to great lengths with partitions, staff in masks or visors, etc this really felt all wrong and made me very uncomfortable. Come on folks - you are better than this, please take this extra step to keep yourselves and your guests safer!

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and the meals you had in our restaurant. Please be assured that we have taken all appropriate measures to ensure the safety of our staff and guests. All our staff do have the option of wearing face masks to afford them added protection, in line with the recommendations from the Scottish government, however it is not mandatory. We take every precaution to ensure the safety of our staff and guests. Every team member has their temperature checked before the start of their shift. We have hand sanitising stations in both the customer areas and the staff areas, a screen at reception, the bar and between the booths in the restaurant as well as enhanced cleaning procedures of all contact surfaces. Thanks again for your review.

We had an early evening dinner here when there were only one or two other tables. The food we had was fantastic and can say that the haggis was the best I’ve eaten. My husband ordered the venison burger and he was very happy with it while I ordered the cauliflower dish. All dishes were presented well, tasted lovely and the price was great for the quality we received. We found the staff members very hit and miss but can only imagine that they are under much more pressure currently due to staffing shortages, different COVID restrictions etc. Overall the quality of the food was excellent and I would recommend to friends.

We had booked for a night dinner at Dolce & Brose while visiting Isle of Skye. The restaurant was fully booked and was practising safe covid practises with all servers and staff wearing masks. Food was nice and served promptly ( usual 15 mins after order). Atmosphere was great and the staff helpful. For vegetarians - the menu had a few but good options. The pasta - conchiglie was really good and topped with local fresh sweet pea shoots which were lovely. The desert was the highlight.

The food was unbelievably good. We came here twice as a result and tried much of the menu. If we lived locally, we would come here as regulars as the food tastes fantastic, is innovative and has precision in its flavours. Unfortunately, the service is not to the same standard. One of the waitresses appeared to complain about colleagues which didn’t seem collegial and created a slightly tense atmosphere. When ordering our mains a different waiter misheard the main I ordered believing that I ordered the cod, rather than the cauliflower dish. Mistakes happen in any business, but the waiter put this down to my accent. Afterwards, he explained this in a reasonable way, but at the time it felt like an Anglophobic comment and I would have liked to see the waiter to taking accountability for the mistake. In sum, I recommend that everyone comes to the restaurant. With slightly more collegial and attentive waitressing, the sky is the limit for Dulse and Brose.

Hi Angus, Thank you for taking the time to review us, I can only apologise for the few faults you have with regards to the service you received. Your comments have been passed onto our staff however, with regards to the "anglophobic comment" we can't help but feel that the staff member explaining the mistake was indeed them taking accountability . We are glad you enjoyed your nights with us and hope to see you again in the future.

We had a nice meal in what seems to be a very popular restaurant. There was a good choice of dishes on the menu and, generally, the food was pretty good. We had a warm reception when we arrived, and a friendly chat with the man at the front desk as we paid our bill. The service was decent, but definitely not perfect. One of the younger servers managed to forget to bring us cutlery after serving our main courses - then expected us to drink a broth using a knife and fork. (Also, I'm sure someone forgot to give us a side plate for our finished shellfish - we saw them on other tables.) Despite these small snags, we did enjoy our meal and would recommend to anyone travelling in the area.

Thank you for your comments, my apologies for the slight lapses with your service, it isn't the experience we want our guests to have. You should have been provided with a cutlery for your mains prior to their arrival, and again you should have had a side dish and spoon for the broth, my apologies for the omission of these. I'm glad to hear that despite this you enjoyed your meal and would recommend us to other customers. Thank you.
