I had heard about this establishment from a few friends and being an amateur resturant critic (see previous submissions) I thought my wife (professional chef) and I would visit and see what the fuss was about, and to say the least we were impressed, great cask ales, great service and fantastic food, if your thinking a an evening out this... The lasagne was great, as was the green Thai curry and the beef pie and steak. The salad on the side looked limp. The chips were fantastic. Service was quick. The desserts really let the pub down.

Thisis like a throwback to yesteryear as it is a quaint local pub, serving excellent food, supported by a fine range of award winning cask ales. Lovely location with a large beer garden which is superb in the summer months, especially if you want a safe play area for the children! Can reccomend Sunday lunch - two courses at a... More

Not all that! We had Sunday lunch here which wasn't great at all. Having to order drinks at the bar our selves wasn't appealing either. As soon as we sat we were prompted by a waitress who just asked what meat we wanted - no menus? We ordered all Sunday dinners as that's all they served on a Sunday. Chicken... More

We discovered this pub just over a year ago and cannot fault it on all levels. My partner enjoys sampling all the real ales and you can't fault the good value food - both evening meals and Sunday lunch. We have experienced watching the 6 nations here and really enjoyed the half time food. The beer garden is lush in... More

Arriving after a decent bike ride around the Vale the welcome at the Boars Head did not disappoint. Window seat, fire burning, superbly kept cask ales, and a glowing atmosphere - cliches but very true! It was all there. No rush, no hassle, and very much idyllic. If you want to impress your friends this is the experience and quiet... More

I have been quite a few times and never disappointed! It is a beautifully decorated, quirky pub with a lovely homely feel. The food is delicious, there is a good selection of drinks and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. In the summer the beer garden is great, we have brought our husky to the beer garden and he... More

This is a charming old inn where good feed is assured. I was there for Sunday lunch, a wide choice of meats, perfectly cooked veg and friendly, efficient service. Oh, and the dessert was pretty amazing too!
