We tried to eat there a few weeks ago. When we walked in we saw people dressed up as though it was a wedding party. We were told they were full which is probably true because it is very small. Apparently you need to call...ahead for a reservation. I did not see that and according to other reviews their phone is often not answered. We were disappointed we weren't able to try it and had to drive into Boerne to dine.More

It appears from the phone message, that the restaurant is no longer serving meals to the outside public, only private parties!

The food is always good- Service sometimes might be a little slow- atmosphere is wonderful as well. The outside courtyard is fantastic - but don't mind the dogs.

We had two people refer this little place. We were seated in the front room which was very small. We suspect the larger area was in the back. Didn’t go inspect as it was a heat index of 107. That said, the air-conditioning was on...when we walked in so that’s my first criteria when judging a restaurant for the first time. We got seated and the longer we sat there the redder our faces got because it really wasn’t very cool at all. There were three ceiling fans in the ceiling, “not running”. My Husband had to go ask for those to be turned on. My second criteria is music. Theirs was really nice and not too loud. I liked that. I had the Quail and my Husband had the Snitzel. We had water to drink and shared an apple streudel. All was were very good. It’s an old building, lots of stuff hanging on the walls about the history of the place. It cost us $63 to have dinner there which we felt was just too much for the location and ambience.More

I read previous reviews on Welfare Cafe and was not disappointed at all. The burgers were delicious and the grilled quail was tasty and tender. Will definitely dine here again. Friendly and accommodating service. It was a bit tricky with a wheelchair but everyone was...helpful in making accessibility for us.More

I have been all over the work & eaten at many places. This little gem is absolutely fabulous. We weren't rushed to eat & leave. In fact we were encouraged to dine & relax!

Our waitress Rae was great! This is a wonderful place to have a nice relaxing evening with family. Make sure to call for a reservation so they know you’re coming! Some of the best food in the Hill Country!!! Anytime we come out to Boerne...and Comfort we make plans to eat dinner here!! Make a point to come by and take it nice and slow while eating amazing food. The crab cakes are a must have and the schnitzel!!!More

Stopped for lunch, no one else was in the restaurant but it was early. Server was not very familiar with the menu, said it was her second week. They don't seem to have a lunch menu so seems expensive. Just didn't get a good feeling...so we left.More

We were there for a wedding rehearsal, food was ok, but late, and looks like they rushed it. I heard some of the other guest wondering, “is that vehicles cooked all the way?”, the cheese dip was not enough for a wedding rehearsal party. But...it was really good, maybe that was just the sharks that could smell blood because the meal was late? Ha ha ha Then come to notice, we weren’t the only rehearsal party there. There was another in the up front area. The place is a quaint place. Aesthetics say “this place is a diamond in the rough” the food and service say, “the diamond might be a little deeper in the rough than you think”. It has great potential. Maybe with a little spot shine they can bring this jewel back the shinny Diamond it once was.More
