We went with to Plooky's based on good reviews from Urbanspoon. The shrimp was good, the gumbo was great, the boudin was mushy:(. They had a large group and seemed to be overwhelmed and never got several things we asked for. We are from Austin and not used to smoking allowed but moved to a table in the corner away... More

The husband and I decided to try what looks like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant from the outside. We were pleasantly surprised. 1 lb of shrimp, 4 corn on the cobs, 4 potatoes and sliced sausage dumped Cajun style onto the butcher paper laid over your table and a cup of gumbo for $27.95. Byob makes it even more cost effective. The... More

We have been known to get up early on a Sunday morning and fly or drive to New Orleans during crawfish season. So we obviously like crawfish. Hot, spicy, tears in your eyes crawfish. We have been remarkably impressed with a few local offerings of this delectable dish. Unfortunately for Plookey's, they are NOT even close to good. We ate there... More

Hadn't been to Plookys in a very long time, decided to go with my wife & another couple. The place was filthy & smelled of smoke & butts. We all looked at each other & couldn't believe the place. This restaurant should be closed by the health dept. We walked around both top & lower areas, On the floor were... More

Noticed tokillamockingbird's review in which Plookys was given a 5* review on every aspect. Since this appeared to be a commentary on my prior post let me respond accordingly. First we are not tourists having been in canyon city going on 20 years, secondly wife and motherinlaw did become deathly ill on the gumbo which as I said before could... More

I love this place & it's obvious you tourists don't know great food! The bread is not made there. The gumbo wouldn't get you sick, if it did why would you keep going back? The shrimp is my favorite but you should order medium.

Real cajun food and atmosphere. It reminded me of mys family get-togethers back in La. The owners were wonderful. Friends of mine played music and I was asked to join in. Between the music great food and ice-cold beer a great time was had by all. Its not just dinner it was an experience.

Just noting a follow up to an april posting by Pete. We've had a place in Canyon Lake for over twenty years. Plookys was a regular and we enjoyed the atmosphere, food and ownership. Somewhere around 5 or so years ago things changed. Ownership was still great and its hard not to like them but the atmosphere dropped off and... More
