We'd been travelling for a few days and couldn't face one more chain restaurant menu (fries, battered shrimp, pasta, hamburger...) We went online looking for something different and we found it! It looks a bit sketchy from the street because the streetlights are dim and it's a few streets off the beaten track, but once inside the courtyard you are... More

Went by today, and it was totally closed down and up for lease. No idea why, though venue was a little out of the way. Places come, places go.

We have tried to eat at this restaurant the last 3 times we were in Galveston but it is only open Thursday Friday and Saturday evenings. It is off the Strand in a scary part of town. The building right next door is a disaster ! I would recommend calling before you go because it is a very small mom... More

The Schnitzel is absolutely amazing! Add the lemon and the mustard and you can't go wrong. They sometimes have large crowds and will run out of the favorites so give some other choices a run! The Farmer's Pork Chop was also a wonderful treat. The desserts are also to die for!!! Give them a chance and remember they are a... More

We used to live here on the island and have been here many times!! Always good! Food is excellent and the owner is always present and welcomes a conversation! We love their Schnitzel. In fact, we have recently moved to Dallas and have not found another place like this. As a result, this is a just stop when we come... More

Opens at 5 and arrived about 6:30. Single waitress was extremely busy. Only two main items on the menu (Weinerschnitzel and Farmer pork Chop, $13.50 each). Brought warm bread and butter in a plastic basket lined with a paper towel. Chicken noodle soup $5. Soup came without spoons - quite thick but really they have to look for spoons? Weinerschnitzel... We traveled off the beaten path and it paid off! The potato salad is the best I've ever had. The service was so good, the owner was so friendly but above all else the food was outstanding. It's such a neat place to try something different.

I loved this place! It reminded me so much of the small German restaurants I visited in Germany. They served an excellent $5/glass red wine and the wiener schnitzel was totally authentic!

The Courtyard Café in Galveston features Czech, German and Hungarian-influenced cuisines. It's nestled in an unassuming concrete building set far enough back from Market Street to feel less like a Strand tributary and more like an Eastern European alleyway. A covered patio allows for outside dining while inside mismatched wooden tables and chairs evoke an Old World intimacy. The menu... More
