We had the chance to visit Roka Akor - Chicago in August 2020 and were delighted to try for the first time their omikase experience. In January, we had a chance to try their location in Houston, and it does not disappoints. Even though we were tempted to get the omikase experience ($300 or more for two people, including taxes), we decided to just try their regular menu options. We enjoyed their Japanese style fried chicken as an appetizer, and steaks with mixed mushrooms on the side. The quality of service provided was great as well and were glad to have had a different experience this time. If you are celebrating a special ocassion, I would highly recommend that you order the omikase. It is definitely worth it in price and you will be in heaven. Highly recommend this place and other Roka Akor locations.

The food was very good, but the service we received by David was what put this experience over the top. David could not have possibly been more helpful and friendly throughout our time in the restaurant. From constantly checking in on us to providing spot on suggestions about what to order, David was on top of it all. No one from our party had a lot of experience with nigiri and sashimi, but David managed to take our preferences and turn them into the perfect set of suggestions. Based on all of that, coupled with the quality of the food, I can confidently say we will be coming back (and hopefully get to dine with David again!).

First time I went here was a few years back and I remember the food was just as delicious as my recent visit here. Food was still amazing! The scallops and the shrimps were very fresh! Everything we ordered were very tasty and scrumptious! Service was good but, I think it can do better by paying a little more attention to small details like maybe checking waters on the table without having to ask and wait? Phone etiquette of the hostess was great! Very professional compared to Steak48 hostesses. I always go to Steak48 for my birthday, but I might just change my new fav restaurant to here since my last visit at Steak48 was not very impressive.

A very disappointing experience last weekend at Houston’s Roka Akor. This has been one of our favorite restaurants and the service seems to have declined significantly in the past year. We made dinner reservations for our family for daughters birthday. I needed to change the party total a few times and did so very apologetically, yet the hostess was audibly frustrated with me and told me that I wouldn’t be able to request any additional changes to my reservation. Against my better judgement we proceeded in dining here and didn’t have a great experience. The food was as good as we remember, but the service was not. Our server was mia for a good 40 minutes and we relied on the food runners for drink refresh etc. When our server re-emerged with the check I asked about a birthday song or simple celebration for our daughter, as was requested in our original reservation. Our server said that if we ordered dessert they would comp it for her birthday, but that was it, pretty matter of fact and coldly stated. We won’t be rushing back anytime soon and will consider other Houston restaurants for celebrations, way too many great food options to settle for sub par service.

Thank you for dining with us, we genuinely appreciate your business. I am sorry tp heart about your experience on your last visit. Warm service and genuine hospitality are the hallmarks of what we do at Roka and I am sorry we did not live up to that on your last visit. I would love to get some more information and details about your visit. Do you happen to recall the name of your server? Was it a man or a women? Which day and time did you dine with us and what area of the restaurant did you sit? Also how many were in your party originally and how many people did you wish to increase the party size by? We take these matters incredibly serious and any additional information would be much appreciated. In addition I would love to buy dinner and drinks for you at Roka for you and a guest any time you are interested. Whenever we drop the ball we do whatever it takes to make amends and we hope to get the opportunity to re-earn your trust and show you what we are like when firing on all cylinders. Simple email us at rsnyder@rokaakor,com and please CC mjacob@rokaakor.com so we may take care of you soon. Have a great day.

We made early reservations so we could enjoy their happy hour, and ordered specials not being served with our dinner. Everything was served in an order decided by the chef and while everything was delicious, some were too good to try to describe, like the robata grilled lobster. You wouldn’t think that after eating lobster for 50yrs that you would find out it had been prepared wrong every time. You have to try it, and the top grade Japanese wagyu steak is an easy upgrade to your Omakase. We reserved seats in the bar area so we could dress a lil “relaxed” and the service was still on point with no gaps or delays for our food or drink service. Omakase at Kumi in Las Vegas had been the best, but now we can eat that well here in Houston. If you can handle some spice, the robata grilled shishito peppers are delish! The deserts were overkill but none survived😜

Absolutely loved our experience here! Between the food, service and ambiance, we couldn't decide which we liked best because all were fantastic! Had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server Yari was sweet, made suggestions and was always readily available as we ordered in stages. The manager Andrew came by to greet us and saw us looking at the wine list and sent over their Sommelier Ricky who suggested a lovely, bold Cab to go with our dinner. We ordered several plates to share, and the standouts were the Wagyu Beef/Kimchi Dumplings, Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice (suggestion from Andrew and loved by all), Seared Salmon/Unagi roll, Seared Escolar/Prawn Tempura roll and Glazed Baby Back Pork Ribs! All of us agreed that these were 5 star dishes and would order them again and again. We finished off our meal with an assortment of sorbets (Coconut Yuzu was the fave) and it was the perfect, yet light, end to a lovely meal. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Such a perfect meal. Great service. Fabulous choice of food. Their sushi is among my favourites. They were a little rushed in clearing up while we were still eating, but it was a Sunday.

Their HH food prices were around $8 a plate which I think is good for a place like this. I would recommend: -Pork belly (we ordered this twice because it is that good) -Sweet corn -Tuna tartare with taro chips -Roka chibi burger -Spicy edamame Other dishes we got that were okay: -Heirloom tomato salad (the dressing was good tho) -Crispy fried squid -Wagyu beef and kimchi dumplings If you like to drink sweet cocktails, ask for the Lychee-tini which is an Off the Menu item. For dessert, I enjoyed the Yuzu cheesecake more than the chocolate cake because it was not as sweet.

The menu here is a mixture of tradition and innovation but I don't think traditionalists will be disappointed. The chicharrones and uni with seared lime are an example of innovation and taste. The uni were perfect. Fresh, sweet - just as they should be. Chef selection of nigiri sushi was outstanding - had two :). Had a very nice NZ sauvignon blanc that I have not seen on other wine lists - the pleasant surprises didn't end. Ambiance is charming and service was also excellent.

I’ve been to Roka Akor twice now and I am impressed with their menu. Roka Akor is located inside the 2929 Weslayan high rises. There’s a complimentary valet but you just need to tip them. When I arrived I was greeted by our hostess and she walked us to our seats. Our waiter was awfully rude but then later apologized profusely for it. It was a party of 5 ladies and he was asking us if we were even old enough to drink. Excuse me? We were all in our mid 20s but regardless he shouldn’t have asked us in a condescending way... other than that, the food was delicious and well worth it.. the waiter.. not so much. Food: Toro Foi Gras (4.5/5): Very tasty and delicious. Wagyu Gyoza (5/5): The Wagyu was cooked to perfect with this dish. It was the best dumpling I had ever tried!! I ordered 2 of these. Hamachi Serrano Make (3.5/5): This one was decent, not my favorite item but it wasn’t bad. Seared Wagyu Maki (4/5): Clearly I move Wagyu. This was one of my fav rolls I’ve tried here. Very delicious! I would highly recommend Roka Akor even if my waiter wasn’t the greatest. My food experience here was well worth it!

Such a great discovery in Houston. The food: had sushi, sashimi, maki, green tea and sorbet; all of them very well made. Fresh and tasty fish, perfectly made rice, and most of all, the maki were not stuffed with mayo :) and don’t miss the Uni. The service: fast, efficient, smiling and friendly. Great team The decoration: contemporary and comfortable, lovely. The bill: it is true that this place is not cheap, but it does offer great value. I will surely be back.

My daughter wanted to go to Uchi but it was full and we managed to get a late dinner reservation here instead. Absolutely no regrets. In fact, i thought the food was much better than Uchi's. The sashimi was extremely fresh - Japan quality. The wagyu steak was nicely cooked; and the mushroom rice with truffles was absolutely divine! Prawn tempura was also very good - served with an interesting srirachi dip. Sushi was average - stick with the sushi. If you've read my other reviews, you would know how much I love good food. I would definitely come back here again!
