Discovered this place on Insta during lockdown and decided we had to try it out once the restaurants reopened. Have been twice in as many weeks and this is definitely now our favorite local independent restaurant to visit. Service is friendly and relaxed and definitely suits the restaurant’s style. Tables are well spaced and each has a bottle of sanitizer and the staff all wears masks. There’s a decent selection of wine and beer, though it isn’t a full bar so don’t expect fancy cocktails. We found the food to be delicious; they’re reasonable sized dishes and very good value. The cauliflower appetizer and pork belly Dan Dan noodles are both excellent - they also have a couple of specials which are worth trying as well. Overall would highly recommend a visit - so important to support local restaurants right now! They also do take out and have a couple of outdoor tables...

Always a great place we decided to picnic during the pandemic dining on some yummy Roost takeout and we were not disappointed. We ordered several things (bread, pickled veggies, pasta, coconut shrimp with grits). Drove up to easily and safely pickup our food. It was well packaged for take out (bring your own silverware!). We didn't have wine since we brought out own. Food was awesome. We will definitely go back - either dine in or take out!

A wonderful spot for dinner in Montrose. The menu changes every few weeks. Expect high quality ingredients on seemingly simple dishes that always have a little twist. On our last visit we enjoyed redfish and grits, along with a brined turkey dish that had a great flavor. The wine list is small, but well-suited to the menu and reasonably priced. Expect friendly, unpretentious but professional service.

Decided to give this a try one Saturday night. So glad we did, as the food was excellent as well as the service. It is very small so I would recommend reservations. We decided to do the chef selection where you get a 3 course meal. I choose the cauliflower for appetizer, quail for entree, and, bread pudding. My husband choose the meatballs, the steak, and the cheese cake. each item were excellent, and they were the regular serving, not a trimmed down sample version. does have some free parking in front of restaurant but it is limited. We will differently go back

The perfect foodie experience. An extensive, diverse and delicious menu which the three of us grazed our way through. All was wonderfully prepared and presented. Appropriately efficient staff kept pace with our grazing style. Short but well selected wine by the glass list. Highly recommend.

Went to celebrate a birthday and got the Houston restaurant week menu. Everything was tasty, fresh, and service was good. Small place so get a reservation. The roads in the area are being torn up.

Menu changes often but the ingredients are fresh and sourced locally when possible. Bread service appetizer is a must!

Went with friends that had a connection at this place. Not on the beaten path, but in a residential area west of downtown. Small menu with an unusual variety. Had fried chicken livers with marinated watermelon as an appetizer. Never imagined that combination but it outstanding. Shared a bone in Wagyu ribeye resting in a demiglaze that melted in my mouth. My wife had scallops that were prepared to perfection. Very eclectic restaurant in an older building in a neighborhood environment.

I worked through lunch and was thus able to walk to Roost for what might be considered a late lunch or an early dinner at the crack of 4:00 PM. I knew I would be able to take advantage of their great Happy Hour for a fine glass of wine, but it was a delight to find a wonderful new dish on their ever-changing menu: a fabulous heirloom tomato bruschetta. I told the server I thought it was a “keeper” and was delighted to hear it would be reprised next month.

The food was delicious and fun. I like how the restaurant is small and has a calming atmosphere. We had a fun waiter who truly loved the food at her workplace, which is always nice because she had all the recommendations. We ordered the bread basket along with the lamb meatballs. Both delicious and the pretzel was the size of my head! Perfectly salted and sweet with house made infused butter and pimento cheese. My friend ordered the pork chop and I ordered the steak. Both big portions and the flavor choices were fantastic! I loved how the food was fresh and the concept is to use local vendors. I highly recommend trying Roost if you live in Houston!

The atmosphere here is great. Dim lights and great music sets the mood for an enjoyable night. The staff was super present and attentive to all our needs. We enjoyed the fried cauliflower and oyster for an appetizer. The oysters were good; served in a cream sauce with sourdough bread. Personally we loved the bread so much. On that note try the bread service, probably really good. The cauliflower though, sweet baby Jesus. Get 3 orders of it. So good. For our main course we had the quail and fish of the day (red fish). Both were amazing. Would have again. Since it was our anniversary they brought us dessert on the house. I don’t love coffee but their coffee and donuts dessert was to die for. They get a great crust on the outside of the donuts. Would definitely come here to try all their different menus (they change it every 6 weeks).

Most of the dishes are excellent. Their cauliflower dish is one of the best in the city. It can get very crowded, but that comes with the territory if you're a well-liked restaurant in Houston. Lots of fried and pickled foods and not a lot of healthy choices, but what they do they do quite well.

We came into this restaurant because of the Houston Food Week to support the Food Bank. And we have come back multiple times because of the quality and innovation of its food. We met the chef, a great guy, and asked him how he managed to combine such interesting ingredients such as bonito and cauliflower. He has a very interesting background (ask him when you go there) and a fantastic taste (at least to me). A definite must to try!!!

The menu is different with flavors they you wouldn’t necessarily think about working together...but it all comes out delicious. The Famous fried cauliflower was great, as was the octopus ceviche. Service was friendly. The space is pretty small so be prepared to wait for a table. Parking is very limited.

I hate to ding a Resto in my neighborhood that’s not a chain. I took my family of four out there tonight for the first and only time; The food is nothing special & the tables are tiny and there’s nothing else redeeming. Try the resto on Shepherd n Colquitt called Nobies instead. There’s a couple other house restaurants near there too I recommend. I had the pork chimichurri style wife had duck confit and son had burger and daughter had tamarind lamb plus some fried cauliflower and the pretzel. The burger and pork were plain bland! Only the duck confit was tasty but the gravy was so strong we couldn’t taste the duck. But it does seem to be the place to be seen for hipsters.
