Food was amazing. I got the vegetarian plate and it was so delicious. Every bite was exquisite. I wish this restaurant was in my home town. I'd go every week. Make a reservation - it was packed on a Monday night.

Loved the non-standard chilli relleno, though it was quite spicy. The quesadillas with mushrooms were exquisite. Loved the fact that they have a full vegetarian menu. Was surprised that peanuts came on the house, rather than the usual chips and salsa!

Really good quality Mexican food here. We went here for a wedding anniversary and had a great night. Really loved the baked tortillas. Excellent service and they made us feel special.

Large buffet. Several different flavors of tamales. You can get your car washed here too. They make hot chocolate from scratch.

Hugo's gets a lot of press and great ratings, but we found it average at best: 1. Food was good, but not outstanding. We didn't find interestings flavors in the quail, the carnitas or the Carne Brava. We were all expecting so much more. 2....More

For this restaurant to continue to be a favorite- yes the food is consistently good (and visually amazing), the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the location is a short walk away from my home. But I believe the true reason Hugo’s is so good...More

Should be called "Who Goes". For some reason, management thinks people crave peanuts before their meal, so you get those free with your water. You don't even get chips/salsa without ordering it. I'm surprised they don't make you pay for the napkins. The food is...More

Back for our second visit for the buffet brunch. Prompt service. Wonderful array of tasty dishes from Chile Rellenos to Tamales. Pretty authentic Mexican food. Definitely not your usual Tex-Mex. Great value with live music. Great dessert selection. This is a place not to miss...More

Definitely not your ordinary Mexican food but still yummy. We decided to be adventurous and start with the grasshopper taco appetizer. It came with beet juice tortillas, guacamole and salsa. The grasshoppers were prepared in a lime and onion base and were crunchy. My spouse...More

The food is modern Mexican and a fusion of sorts nothing like a menu of a Mexican joint, I would suggest you identify how spicy you want and which meats you prefer, that said, do not leave without trying their Cilantro sauce.

On par. Apples and oranges though. Hugo's focus on traditional and Caracol fusion and modern versions. Both excellent places imho

Description
Located in the heart of Houston's Montrose area, Hugo's brings the exciting and earthy flavors of Mexico across the border. “Authentic Mexican cooking is a world-class cuisine that has remained virtually unchanged by the outside world," says Executive Chef Hugo Ortega of his native cuisine. "The food is as light and fresh as a seafood cocktail prepared by fishermen on the beach; as deep and complex as the moles of Oaxaca made with an astounding number of ingredients; and as earthy as the simplest handmade corn tortilla." With the opening of his namesake restaurant in 2002, Ortega journeyed full-circle to rediscover the foods of his homeland. The menu features traditional dishes from the many regions of Mexico, all made from scratch in Mexican tradition, including various cheeses, moles, tortillas and chocolate. The restaurant is also known for its stellar award-winning wine program, cocktail list and tequila menu.
