My husband and I went here with friends on Saturday night…we ordered the steamed vegetable dumplings as well as the steamed pork dumplings for an appetizer. Both are great—lots of flavor in the vegetable dumplings, full of cabbage and secret spices! Entrees were Mongolian beef, curried lamb, sizzling shrimp with rice, and Moo Shoo pork. We all shared and couldn't... More

When we found ourselves with a moldy smoked turkey (yuk!) on Christmas day, we were desperate. Guests coming. No food. So we found the closest Chinese restaurant that was open and ordered take out. Cafe Chino used to be in the West University Village, but now resides in an expressway feeder road strip mall. Despite the less than desirable location... More

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The service was prompt and the menu selection was good. Lunch prices range from $13-$15 but the portions are mostly meat with some vegetables and some rice - usually that is the other way around - limited meat and lots of veggies and rice. They have a lower price lunch menu Monday-Friday... More

The owners are here all the time, the wife is the chef and the husband is the host. Their son is the bartender. Delicious authentic Chinese food that is lighter in fat and sodium than traditional Chinese food. Tonight my spouse and I had grilled Cobia fish served with a Thai pesto made with pumpkin seeds, over a bed of... More

When I moved to Houston to marry my wife I thought I had had pretty decent experiences with Chinese restaurants being from the east coast. But when she took me to her favorite Chinese restaurant, Cafe Chino, I was knocked out. This used to be located in Rice Village, off Kirby, one of Houston's hippest villages known for interesting and... More

This used to be my go to spot for Chinese, but took my Mom and wife there for my B'day lunch. Service was bad and the food wasn't nearly as good as it used to be.

My family has been going to Cafe Chino since they opened in Rice Village and followed them to the 59 and Edloe location. It is and always was our go to Chinese restaurant. We especially like the eggrolls (both soft and crispy), the General's Chicken and Cashew Chicken. Can not recall ever having a bad meal.

Cafe Chino used to be a great little secret in the village if one sought Chinese food. They have moved on the frontage road of Highway 59 and although the physical space is better the food is no longer as fresh tasting or special. We loved it before and we keep going back from time to time to see if... More
