The menu at Caracol looked fascinating, and, for fish eaters, Mexican restaurants are often chancy. Caracol was a great choice. Tuna taco appetizers were amazing. My scallops were delicious, and my husband's vegetarian dishes were equally good. It was a Saturday night, the restaurant got crowded quickly, and so service was a bit slow. But I highly recommend the kitchen!

Our party of four tasted everything from tuna tacos and oysters to roasted pork ribs and calamari. Finished with the carne asado and a fish special. All were excellent and we ate family style so I sampled everything. An excellent experience — attentive waiter who did not rush and a good craft cocktail list. We will return.

All is good except the pricing on margaritas. Don't try to order a simple one with just tequila, lime, and Grand Marnier. It will cost $16 when several premade ones with lots of ingredients are $12-14.

While the food was wonderful, the overall experience for Mother's Day brunch was really lacking. Mother's Day menu was $52 per person, including an appetizer, entree and dessert. While I would have preferred the regular brunch menu and regular prices, I get it. My son made a reservation three weeks in advance for the patio, but the only table available was one without an umbrella and in the direct sun. Even that, I get. What I don't get was the service. Mother's Day was treated as an in and out production. Get 'em seated, fed, and out in 1 hour. Really? You ordered all three courses at once, and then they brought our entrees while we still had our appetizer plates in front of us, and our desserts when we still had our entree plates in front of us. No asking if we'd like another drink, etc. They also ushered patio guests in and out through the restaurant -- had I been sitting at one of the interior tables in the pathway, I would have been irritated at best. When you're spending $200+ at a fine dining establishment, you're wanting an experience, not just getting your stomach full and out. Caracol, I have dined with you once before and this is NOT what was expected.

Mother’s Day was a challenging day for us. The continuing staffing issue that all restaurants are having right now made such an important day particularly difficult. The staff did their best but in some cases we came up short. I am so very sorry.

We planned to meet for drinks to celebrate my daughters birthday, having been there many time (all 8 of us but not together) it seemed like the best place to have happy hour. When we arrived at 4 pm (opening) it was 100 deg F. We were told we would be seated outside, no fans! None of us wanted to complain as we had all travelled there from different sides of town and didn’t want to spoil the birthday happy hour. We asked at least to be put in the shade and move two tables together, at least three of us individually asked several waiters/manager if it was possible just to be inside for some drinks as we were only there for happy hour snd the inside looked empty, they had just opened. We were told they were fully booked. We asked from what time and were told 5 so we were still not allowed an hour of A/C while it was unoccupied. If it was not a birthday we would have all left. We were served drinks and had a few appetizers, and we informed our waitress that the birthday girl was vegan and also she could not eat avocado. Anyway we had our celebration, birthday girl ordered the vegetable dish which unfortunately came covered in avocado. All the wine we ordered, rose and white were nearly room temperature and remember outside was 100 degrees! They offered us ice to cool the wine. Only after we left after paying a hefty bill which they added 20 percent tip as we were 8 people, we realized we were never offered the happy hour menu, no discount, no bar bites! Somehow we overlooked that! The inside table we envied during our stay lay empty until 10 mins before our departure. This is a restaurant that all 8 of us have frequented and recommended ! Sorry Caracol you really let us down! We left very sweaty and unhappy at the cost a some drinks and a few snacks! We actually feel we were ripped off! Is that why you didn’t let us inside so we couldn’t have happy hour at 4?? What’s the deal! Would love an explanation!!!

I have been here twice now, and will definitely be going again. The oyster appetizer was great. The guacamole was good, but there was not enough chips. I was absolutely floored by how good the octopus molé was. We really liked the scallops, cooked to perfection not rubbery at all. We also had the special, which was a fish of the day, and was also very good. Drinks were good, service was great, ambience and environment were upscale and romantic.

We visited Caracol as a family for Easter Sunday buffet brunch and more recently, for lunch. In both instances we were welcomed and immediately led to our reserved table. Service was eager and prompt, although at times amateurish. The Easter brunch buffet defies description: it is extensive and includes many seafood items, both crudo and cooked. Beautifully presented, you the graduate to hot dishes that include chicken, pork, beef and lamb. There was an extensive dessert selection, a bit o everything for those with a sweet tooth. Our more recent lunch focused on the small dishes (or appetizers). We loved the mussels, the ceviche, the delicious raw tuna tostadas and the queso flameado. The favorite, however, was the chicharron de calamar. Of the main dishes, the Tacos de Pescado were delicious, but the Pulpo ahumado was the table's favorite, not to forget the Pescado Zarandeado. A selection of cocktails, beers and wines rounds out the perfect meal. The place is spacious, light, with high ceilings and not too loud, thus allowing normal conversation.

We did have Mother's Day brunch yesterday, however, our experience did not meet our expectations in prior visits. We were seated outside in an area exposed to sun. We asked to be placed in a shaded area, staff did not accommodate this immediately but finally had an open table. The staff were reluctant at first. This reaction was disappointing. In addition, the portion size was small. We asked for the regular menu and we were old no- please have the regular menu if we decide not to select the mother day menu list. Overall, it felt disappointing and too expensive for the food. My wife and family felt let down from the excellent experience we come to expect at Caracol as in the past.

Perfection in the fine dining experience was achieved last night! Daniella, our server, helped curate that perfection. The ribeye was one of the best I have had and the halibut was just cooked to perfection. Of course the margaritas are always amazing and presented and poured with flourish.

Vegetarians beware. DO NOT ORDER "PLATO DE VEGETALES V ". It says on the menu "five seasonal vegetable medley 22". The plate looked as if were literally 5 "single" vegetable items like the the amount of vegetables on a hambuger. I was shocked that a restaurant of this stature would try to sell almost no vegetables on a plate for $22. It looked like one single small handful of salad ingredients. The other dishes for my wife and friends were normal. Why would this well established restaurant of excellent reputation skimp on a meal for people that principally eat vegetables. Outrageous!!!

Celebrated ourc35th anniversary here. Outstanding food, decor, and service! Host greeted us with "happy anniversary", there was a celebratory card on our table, complimentary gift of ceviche, and complimentary dessert and Prosecco. Highly recommend this sister restaurant to Hugo's!

We had visited Caracol before, mostly for dinner. This time, we chose lunch. The place was a bit more sedate and not as crowded as for dinner. Our server was very attentive and helpful. We tried a couple of Mexican wines: the Casa Madero Merlot was quite drinkable and paired well with our dishes. The Spanish Albarino was delightful, as always. We elected to order several appetizers instead of main dishes. It was a good choice. The Ceviche de Caracol was outstanding: fresh, delicate, with a couple of hints of cilantro and pepper. The Ceviche de Chile Canario highlighted a delicious red snapper with chile canario, cilantro, radish and cucumber. The Chicharron de Calamar was an interesting presentation of fried squid, without the breading, thus offering more the taste of the squid than the fried breading. I definitely prefer this version. Finally, the Costillas a las Brasas brought wood roasted ribs that were succulent, tasty, tender and juicy. We left it for last, and wisely. The flavors would have killed the two ceviches or even the Calamari. Overall, with generous portions, these four appetizers provide an outstanding and satisfying selection.

I have been wanting to get back to Caracol for a while for the Roasted Oysters. They were delicious! The best I have had. The seafood al ajillo was also delicious. The only disappointment of the evening was the smoked octopus. The first bite was good, and unique, but then it just started to taste really salty. I do not recommend it and do not think it will be on the menu for long. The pulpo in the mariscos al ajillo was excellent. This is the one that should be an appetizer. The service was outstanding.

I visited for a business diner and was really impressed by the friendly staff and great atmosphere in the restaurant. The food was excellent and novel hybrid taste combination’s definitely worked for my dinning experience. Drinks were good (if expensive) but overall a great experience and I recommend to give it a try if in the Galleria area.

This restaurant is always good. My husband and I always bring our friends and it’s wonderful. Fresh beautiful ceviches , roasted oysters , and inventive cocktails. The fresh roasted fish is delicious BUT omg. The duck. Crispy duck leg was absolutely perfect. One of my favorite Houston restaurants.
