I took my assistant to Caracol Coastal Mexican for her birthday. It's a very nice restaurant in the Houston Galleria area. Caracol is very bright and wide open. They have a nice patio area for when it's warm. At this time, there is a lot...More

We thought the food was pretty decent overall. The portions are small and the prices are on the high side. Seems like a “see and be seen” type place. It’s a one and done for me. There is too much competition in Houston for this...More

Dining room is light and airy, service good. We sampled several dishes and small plates that were beautifully plated. The charbroiled oysters were executed well but failed to offer any “charr”. We ordered tuna crudo tostadas only to be told they were “out”. And on...More

Godo place to come for HH, with many specials on the menu. Got a round of food served tapas style for $7-14 a plate, enough for two people to sample each. Wine specials too make for a good place to have a light bite to...More

We’ve been enjoying Caracol since it opened. Meals there are always a treat. I recently had occasion to host a birthday celebration in the wine room with 18 in our party. All aspects- from the ease of planning the night, to the pleasant and attentive...More

Casual to cocktail. Anything goes. I would say dressy jeans and heels for women and you'll feel comfortable. Same for men without the heels:)

Description
One of the beauties of Mexico is its geographic location, with coasts on the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, which is connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the Florida Straits. From these waters comes a bounty of edible sea life, which is celebrated at Caracol, the award-winning restaurant of culinary team of Chef Hugo Ortega and Restaurateur Tracy Vaught. Caracol meaning “snail” in Spanish, was chosen as the restaurant’s name because of Chef Hugo’s fond memories of making ceviche de caracol (conch ceviche) in his brother Jose Luis’ kitchen at a resort in Playa del Carmen (see Hugo’s personal essay below). Our menu is a culinary tour along the Mexican coasts, which are shared by 16 of the country’s states.
