What a cool place to eat . We did have a pretty good wait but nice setting and live music while you waited. Excellent service and excellent meal. Building is way cool.

Amazing that a person would endure the outdoor heat of such a place and give it a glowing report. A must visit in New Braunfels. Atmosphere is terrific. A breeze did help with the outdoor heat. Enjoyed the jalapeño margarita and onion rings. You MUST...More

I wanted to come to Gruene Texas for Gruene Hall and country friend steak and strawberry shortcake at the Grist Mill. My husband and I used to eat here all the time in the early 90's. Still a beautiful view, neat building. Our server, John...More

The Gristmill is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Gruene/New Braunfels area. The food is good and prices are reasonable/moderate. There is something for everyone - even the kiddos. Try the onion rings, addictive! To me, the best part of this place...More

24 years ago my new wife and I came to the Gristmill on our honeymoon. It was deserted and we wanted a good meal but didn't really have money to eat there. We squeaked by and now we returned 24 years later with our daughters....More

We were driving from San Antonio to Dallas and knew we HAD to stop at the Gristmill for their famed spicy bean Bloody Mary. Perfectly made, with fresh lime, spicy green beans and jalapeño stuffed green olives. We didn't have time for a meal but...More

Was hoping we would have had a great experience. We did have a big party but our food was just average. Our waitress messed up our order and we never ended up getting our onion rings which that is what everyone said we had to...More

The setting is awesome. The service was very good. The price was expensive but in line with other restaurants. Everyone enjoyed their food very much except for our 5 year old. He got the chicken strips. They looked great but he kept saying they did...More

There is a lot of shade trees, tables with umbrellas, and if you want to sit inside, there are ceiling fans. To cool off enjoy a margarita, beer, or tall glass of iced tea.

I saw grilled food items and veggies as well, I'm sure if you let the server know they can try to accommodate.

Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
