Love the Gristmill. We were there recently, sat outside near the river. The special for the day we were there was grilled red snapper. Absolutely wonderful. Burgers are awesome; great service and ample helpings. We plan on a quarterly visit.

A great meal and very good service in historic Gruene, a must go too! Good live music while we waited on our table with some very good adult beverages. Good Chicken fried steak and husband had the T-Bone, very good and reasonably priced!

Very popular place with the tourist, Situated along the banks of the river and nice ambiance. Food is a notch above average and service can be spotty. Usually long wait time for table which is hard if you're elderly or handicapped, especially in the long hot summers. Sitting area outside is hot and humid and not enough sitting benches to... More

My husband and I went for lunch here today and it was good but not as good as I expected. Most of the seating is outside, which is nice but when I was seated by the hostess, I sat on a soaking wet bench. Bad start. The menu offered much more than I expected for a restaurant that serves so... More

If you are in the area, it's a must do. Wonderfully designed, open air restaurant on the river. Food is excellent, prepared with a flare. Servers are well trained for a fun dining experience. Good value.

Seems to be the tourist stop but the food was good (pepper steak and bronzed fish) and the atmosphere was wonderful. Had about an hour wait to get a "anywhere" table. You have to watch for your name on a chalkboard to know when your table is ready. Live music in the waiting area and cocktail waitresses so not too... More

went for lunch - I had the German wedding sausage plate with potato salad ... excellent. Wife had a cheeseburger that was top notch. Great atmosphere - got to sit along the river. We sat in the courtyard and listened to live music while sipping margaritas.

While in Gruene, Texas made a quick stop at the Gristmill Restaurant. This location has a remarkable history, wonderful atmosphere, outstanding staff, and a broad menu. The meals are outstanding, Chicken-fried steak, burgers & ribs served in an 1878 cotton gin with a shady patio & river views. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is in short walking... This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat. From their house salad to their AMAZING plate of onion ring...you can't go wrong! Seriously...their onion rings are delicious. Also....try their spinach artichoke dip! There is not one item here that I haven't tried that I haven't enjoyed. Chicken Fried Steak and their mashed potatoes are delicious. If you like... More

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
