We ate outside

Rays tavern was recommended by a staff member at the hotel we were staying at as a good place to eat outside. When we arrived we could see the outdoor patio where no one was eating at the time. There was no apparent door from the patio to the inside of the tavern so we wore our masks inside and asked the bartender if we could eat outside. She said it wasn’t really very clean out there snd the weather was pretty warm. I told her we could wipe down our own table and we didn’t mind the warm weather. I asked for menus and she said the menu was out on the patio. So we went out to the patio, found a table and wiped it down with disinfectant wipes. A server then came out and set waters and silverware on our table and moved ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and some sort of sauce from another table to our table. We did not use any of these as we did not know how long they had been sitting in the heat. The menu was on a whiteboard on the wall with higher prices listed if a credit card was used to pay. There were a variety of burgers , steaks, chicken and pork chops listed. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and I ordered a chicken salad and we each ordered a beer. Our server was very friendly snd helpful. The bartender who brought out the beers, not so much. Our food came in a timely manner and was very good. My husband ordered another beer. Our server came out a while later to check on us. We told her the food was very good and we would take that second beer now please. A few minutes later the bartender came out with the beer and set it down without a word. My husband said, “here you go “ and tried to give her the first empty beer bottle. She grabbed it roughly out of his hand without a word and tossed it loudly in the garbage can as she walked back inside. We finished our tasty meal and waited snd waited for our check. I finally called on the phone and asked for our check and a to go box. The person on the other end said “you can pay for it inside”. I asked if someone could bring us the check and she repeated “you can pay for it inside”. So I put my mask on snd gathered various denominations of cash, not knowing how much the bill was. As I was headed inside, our sweet server came out with a to go box and our bill. The prices on our bill were the higher prices as if we were paying by credit card. I noted that to the server but did not want any more hassle. We told her the food was very good and she was very kind and friendly but the bartender not so much. Soooo-food was good, but I’m sure you would get much better service if you feel comfortable eating inside the crowded bar and dining area.

Road trip Coast to coast Massachusetts to Washington

Very busy at 5:00 on a Tuesday. Good food. Chef was busy at the grill. He cooked hamburgers steaks pork chops and chicken breast. Dinners were served with salad, potato and bread. 5 beers on tap and bottled beer available. No hard spirits or wine was noticed. Very busy at the booths, tables. Bar not so busy. We did eat at the bar. Service was very and accommodating with a smile from everyone.

Fantastic steak

This restaurant was recommended by the clerk at the nearby River Terrace Inn. At dinner time, I ordered a 12 ounce New York Strip steak, cooked very rare. It was cooked exactly as I ordered it, which unfortunately doesn't happen often. The steak had a wonderful flavor and was tender. Included was a salad with great blue cheese dressing, and a baked potato. All for $24. Great food and great service. Will eat here again if I am driving through. P.S. While I don't know the sanitizing specifics, the tables were clean.

We stop there frequently on our way through after a camping/recreational trip. Always order the same thing and it always seems to be a different price, wait times are longer and longer when you are always told 15 min. Food is delicious, but some of the employees are not so nice. I realize we are just a measly to go order (because we prefer not to dine in places these days), but doesn't our business matter too? I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it seems to be consistent rudeness. This last time was pretty ridiculous so we may not stop there again or for quite some time. Which is a shame because we have been stopping once a week for several months 🤔 😕

We decided to have dinner here based on the positive reviews and recommendation from hotel that their steaks were very good. It was very busy so we felt that we made the right decision. We had read that the servers can be rude, so the fact that we experienced that from one of the servers didn’t surprise us (the other 2 were fine). I ordered the cheeseburger and fries and the burger was very good but the fries were dry and cold. My husband ordered the ribeye steak and hardly ate any of it. It was not a good cut of meat and had absolutely no flavor. I understand that it is a “tavern” in a small town, but we were disappointed based on the positive reviews and prices.

Liked this place. I’m from NC but passing through and heard great things about it. I sat at the bar. It’s a seat yourself establishment. I sat right near the grill which you can openly see from the counter. All the Patty’s are homemade not frozen and the French fries are done in house too. They keep them in a bucket for cleanliness and will scoop them out into the fryer. They’re not frozen either all fresh. I was very impressed. The chicken they were frying was fresh too. I watched them pull it out to get it ready for the fryer. My hamburger was huge with a toasted bun. Fresh condiments with shredded lettuces and pickles. They have these squeeze bottles of an orange sauce which is really good. The menu is simple and has two prices. One for cash and one for card. Cash is a dollar cheaper.

The worst experience ever

Unfortunately, we decided to stop and have dinner at this restaurant after reading all of the five star reviews. Upon arrival we attempted to sit out back all the tables were filthy dirty. So we sat down and asked the waitress to please wipe down the table for us. She replied, “we don’t have any outside towels to wipe down the table.” She then instructed us to go inside if we wanted a clean table. So, we proceeded inside. When we sat down inside she informed us that the Cook said that our service dog doesn’t look like a service dog and if it didn’t behave like one we would have to leave. We probably should’ve just left at that point. However, after driving all day we were looking forward to a nice dinner. My husband and I both ordered the teriyaki chicken and a baked potato. They were out of baked potatoes. So we opted for The fries. When our food came out the garlic toast was not toasted the teriyaki chicken was not teriyaki at all tasted more like lemon pepper chicken, the french fries were undercooked so they were soggy not nice and crispy. The cook was very unfriendly the waitress was very unfriendly it just wasn’t a very nice place to go. I wanted to post this review because we tried that restaurant based on the reviews on the site I don’t know who is posting those but there’s no way that I would even give them one star I would give them zero if I could.

Best chicken sandwich- EVER!

My 18 year old son declared this the BEST chicken sandwich EVER! That’s very high praise. Excellent service. Not very busy, but it is a strange year. They were completely set up for social distancing. I had an excellent cheeseburger wrapped in a lettuce leaf due to my gluten restrictions. I would recommend this fine establishment.

My wife and always stop at Ray's for dinner when we're traveling through Green River. My nephew is a truck driver and told us about this bar/restaurant years ago and we've been eating here ever since. It's always a great burger and beer, and the service is always good. We were a little nervous this time, because no one was wearing a mask - not the server, the cook, the bartender, or most of the other customers. Maybe Utah laws are more lenient than other areas???

Lovely Little Eatery!! Great Burgers!!

While passing through Green River for gas, we asked at the gas station where to eat and they sent us to ray's. Ray's Tavern is a no-frills, simple and friendly place. The staff were nice and efficient. We sat outside at a simple table, watching the sunset while waiting for our food. We took two cheeseburgers which were great, This was accompanied by draft beers (One Pale Ale and one Amber) and followed by a shared Apple Pie with ice cream. everything was freshly prepared and tasty. Lovely Little Eatery!!

Best Cheeseburger and fries!

Having tasted cheeseburgers and fries all across the US, IMO, there is no better than Ray's Tavern in Green River Utah. Everything on the menu is good, but the cooked to perfection burgers and hand cut fries are why I stop at Rays on every trip through Green River. Also, the place is just really cool, and the employees are friendly and awesome. Go to Ray's... you'll be glad you did.

We split a burger and had two salads and fries at Ray’s last evening. The service was extremely friendly and efficient. Our burger was excellent. Salads were super fresh. Their fries are definitely hand cut and my husband..... who judges restaurants by the quality of the fries..... was very impressed. High praise, indeed.

Great hamburger and Cold beer

We ate dinner at Ray's Tavern one night. It doesn't look like much on the outside but is nice inside. Huge wooden booths, sports on TV, nice bar and they cook in an area at the end of the bar. Food was good, beer was cold and the environment was good. I would return.

Ate Here Twice on our Trip - Once Great - Once Disappointing

My wife and I always eat at Ray's when traveling cross country. We ate here in June, 2021, and had our normal great burger, but on our return drive home in August, we were disappointed for the first time. The burger was very rare, which I ate anyway, and my wife ate around the raw parts. (We could have sent it back, but we didn't want to take the time). But, worse than the burger, the fries were not cooked - very hard. Not sure what happened this evening - maybe a new cook??? We'll give Ray's another try because we've eaten here many times, and always had great food and service, but hopefully, this last time isn't going to be the norm.

We go to Rays every time we head to Moab, which is a lot. Sometimes we stop again on our way back to Salt Lake. Seriously the best burger EVER. Their fries are great too, real thick cut home made fries, not the kind out of a bag. Great staff too. Place can get packed. Has an area outside to sit when the weather is good. Whoever gave it 1 star in another review, clearly does not know what they are talking about. Their food is seasoned perfectly, their fries cooked to perfection and they don’t boil any meat that would have ended up on a burger. You can watch them cook the food on the HUGE grill they have. We’ve eaten there A LOT over the years and the food has always been WONDERFUL.
