Once you walk through the front door you are are transported to the perfect Vermont experience. The decor is so warming and inviting and they have the perfect amount of all options to welcome both the heath conscious to the person wanting an indulgent treat. The restaurant is incredible and just like the store you can have a wonderfully healthy selection or indulge in culinary treats. The staff is super attentive and this general store is an amazing treat....well worth the visit over and over again!

This is a smashing place in a quiet Vermont village (worth a walk in the area). It's a general store and also a great coffee shop - one of the best chocolate brownies I've ever eaten). We liked it so much we went back for lunch - a really wide range of beautifully cooked food - we had two delicious massive salads. Towards the rear there is also a bar with a wide range of craft ales and wines and we are sure we would enjoy dinner here too.
Very friendly and efficient young staff. Our top pick from the 5 days we spent in the Manchester area.

Thank you very much for your detailed review and I am happy that you picked the highlights to review; our scratch made food, great baked goods, salads and craft beer and bar area. Yes, our staff is fabulous and they provide excellent fast service.
Peru is a fabulous village for a stroll, as you mentioned. Please come again. On your next visit maybe you can make time to visit the Makery Craft center or Wild Wings Cross Country Ski Touring Center also in Peru. Cheers and thanks again, Juliette.

We happened upon this place on our road trip in Vermont. It was a beautiful fall day and they had a nice outside seating area so we decided to grab some lunch. They had a great store with quality products. The staff seemed friendly and we enjoyed a couple of bowls of split pea soup on the patio. My wife fell in love with the bunny and mushroom wall paper in the restaurant. I just hope she can't find it online! We would recommend.

On a quiet Sunday night my husband and I had dinner at J.J. Hapgoods. As I try to eat healthier these days, I chose the spaghetti squash entree. Spaghetti squash has the potential to be a hit or miss. My entree was a definite hit, The dish was a melange of fresh and flavorful ingredients. The highlight was a homemade cashew ricotta. Who knew?
The chef entered the dining area and I inquired about her savory concoction. She detailed the process of boiling raw cashews, puréeing them, and seasoning them to create a wow-worthy dish.
If this is the chef Hapgood has, she is a rare gem. I am excited for more of her innovative cooking and eager to see and taste even more of her impressive culinary creations.

From the exterior this doe not look like it has much to offer - walk inside and it's all there. Great Vermont atmosphere, good service and food that is outstanding and if you forgot or ran out of any items(personal and otherwise) it's there. We were able to get to get breakfast - oh so good.

Busy spot no matter what time you come here but we were able to get a table in the bar area for lunch on Sunday. We had one of their "mocktails" and ordered a Kale and chickpea pizza (out of Kale so a sub of spinach did the trick) Nice dough, quality toppings and a hot wood oven makes for a great pizza and this was great. Creative and tasty it was the perfect lunch to get us home.
Enjoy!

Adorable, well merchandised, delicious food, great music. Looked like a good place to work (if you needed that). Perfect for a pre- Hapgood pond excursion.

I have eaten here before and absolutely loved their sandwiches which had the option to be gluten-free along with other dishes that were also gluten-free. It became a must have every time I was in the area, especially since I am gluten free due to medical reasons.
Sadly when I went this time the menu was VERY limiting. There was a beautiful small assortment of baked goods, chicken sandwich, a soup option and a quiche. There was NO gluten-free options. I asked the staff who has been working there for 6 months if they were out of a lot of their usual gluten-free options but was told that they haven’t sold ANY gluten free options since they’ve been there. I then asked if they switched ownership but was told no. Their description on this website still says that they are gluten-free, but this is clearly not the case. Sadly this restaurant will be taken off my gluten-free friendly restaurant list.

Really loved this little store! Charming, with lots of local produce and products. They had very safe COVID-19 protocols. A great option if you're camping at Hapgood Pond.

Thank you for your visit and review. Yes, we responded right away to the Covid protocols and got our ordering system up online for curbside pick up and outdoor seating. We expect to continue with this and suggest calling ahead or placing orders online.

Just about everything this restaurant/store does is done well.
You will find people there every day at any time of the day.
There is a reason for that....because there is nothing else in Peru.

The food here is fantastic. Menu is creative, local and fresh. Everything we got was delicious. Also its a cute setting in a general store so you can shop while you wait for your food.

I really wanted to like this place but during holiday season, they were overwhelmed. The restaurant was so understaffed our salad came after the entree after waiting forever. Unfortunately no one seemed to care and the food was very average. Better to come during
off season.

Great variety of items well-merchandised in this old-time general store. We loved all the homemade refreshment options from coffee to kombucha. We enjoyed the wild mushroom, onion and arugula pizza and the fried chicken sandwich. Coz spot to visit with friends and family on gorgeous long wooden benches. Lots of local craftsmen and tradespeople contributed to this successful, appealing spot.
