We recently celebrated a family member's birthday at The Anchor while visiting in Wilmington. My mother recommended the restaurant after having several good experiences here in the past. I'm sorry to report that we were mostly disappointed. We were seated upstairs, adjacent to doors leading...to a balcony overlooking the street. When we arrived there were diners on the balcony, which meant that wait staff was constantly going in and out. That would not have been a problem except that this was a chilly September evening, and some of our party felt quite cold sitting next to the doors. I wore a jacket throughout most of our meal. The wait staff was unsympathetic to our predicament. Our waitress, who was running up and down the stairs all night, complained incessantly about how hot it was in the room, and intentionally propped the door open a couple of times. We closed it. Sadly, the food wasn't any better. Some of our group enjoyed the Lobster Bisque, but my New England Clam Chowder was very ordinary. No one was impressed with the salads, which again were entirely ordinary. We were also disappointed with the Ahi Tuna, which my mother commented was nowhere near as good as it had been in the past. My Grilled Swordfish was dry, tough, and tasteless. Other members of our party thought they their meals were "okay"; I think only my son was completely satisfied with his Frutti Di Mare. Perhaps our experience was an anomaly. In any case, I doubt I would return, partly because the food was subpar, but also because I don't need to hear a waitress complain about how busy she is, or how hot she is from running up and down the stairs. That's the gig--if you don't like it, find a different one. So I can't recommend The Anchor, but as in all things, YMMV.More

Just had the worst experiene. I ordered the tuna with the cucumber sauce which I had last time here and loved it. The waitress said it didn't come with cucumber sauce only the salmon did. My husband pointed to the menu and showed her the...cucumber sauce was one on the choices. When our meal was served, my tuna was rare, very rare, I usually get it medium rare so I was going to ask her to have it cooked more, the only problem with that was that despite only two other tables a 2 and a 4 in the restaurant she didn't return to ask how everything was until my husband had already finished his meal. When I told her I couldn't eat the tuna, she said they alway cook it that way if you don't tell them, well ususally I am asked how I like tuna cooked but on top of that there was confusion about the sauce so I didn't think of it. The waitress was not apologetic at all she actually laughed and was rude after that. They did take the meal off the menu but she never mentioned instead she rudely just put down the check. She had an attitude like she could do no wrong and nothing was her fault . We have been there before and had a great waiter. I don't know if we will ever return but if we do we will always ask for him.More

Honestly, my wife and I first discovered Anchor when Dots was closed and we needed a place to have lunch. We were glad we did because the food is really good, the atmosphere is nice, the server was very pleasant and the prices are more...than fair. We both ordered the salmon burger - it came with plenty of fries and slaw. Priced at $12.95 it was a great value. Of course, we will be back to try another dish ! We should also point out there are other items on the menu besides seafood. This is a really nice place, so go !More

The portions were too small for $25.00 for shrimp scampi, all it was a bunch of spaghetti, Will not return, the waitress at the bar would not wait on me. The customers are locals who all know each other and are rude.More

Good Morning, So sorry you weren't happy with your experience. Just wanted to clarify, the Scampi is served over Linguine, not spaghetti. Additionally I offer you the definition of Scampi: What is Shrimp Scampi? Creamy Shrimp Scampi is a dish made with shrimp (or prawns)...More

We were impressed with this small restaurant on south main street. Service and food were both excellent, maybe the best we had in Vermont. Location is a few miles from the Hogback Mountain nature museum. There is a parking lot about a block away.

We ate with friends on a Tuesday evening. Our meals were well prepared, salmon and cod. Portions are large Our waitress was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Somehow our reservation was “lost”, but hostess remembered my call, and seated us as quickly as she could.

This is a nice restaurant in Wilmington, just off the main drag through town. We sat on the porch in a comfortable outdoor setting. The service was great in a dog friendly setting. They have a nice seafaring selection of food as you would expect...from a restaurant called The Anchor and it was all delicious at our table at a reasonable price.More

Dropped in here for a meal whilst in town for a couple of days. Restaurant was fully booked (on a Monday) but offered seats in the Bar. We accepted and what a good choice we made. Both the Salmon and Tuna dishes were superb; the...staff really friendly and great service. Only in town one more night, but we booked in advance to make certain we could get in !More

We stopped here for dinner. Luckily made a reservation same day. Had the broiled scallops with garlic linguini. This was probably the best scallops ever! Highly recommend the garlic linguini to roll in that creamy sauce that the scallops were baked in. The squash was...excellent as well, so tasty. The stuffed haddock was excellent. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. Staff were friendly and service was great.More

My husband and friends loved their scallop dishes and I enjoyed the swordfish. The restaurant was somewhat noisy but the noise level was tolerable. I would go there again!

One of the few restaurants open on a Wednesday night in the area. Salad a rolls were average… but the main entree, no thanks. Baked Parmesan Sole was more like diced fish in some kind of cheese sauce and briefly broiled. It resembled a really...wet cheesy omelette. Rice was a good side option, but skip the linguine which was was more like dry spaghetti with not enough garlic and oil. Our server, the infamous Larry, mentioned in other reviews was a real character who did his best to be friendly and efficient but unfortunately the food was not good enough to make me want to return. I’d rather have a McDs fillet of fish sandwich.More

Not many places open on a Sunday, luckily Anchors was. Between the four of us, we had ribs, shrimp and fisherman’s platter. Everyone agreed the food was delicious. Also, we sat upstairs on the outside porch which was nice. The waitstaff was awesome, especially Sarah...- Thanks!More
