The C and O has been one of my very favorite restaurants for over 30 years. The staff is still the best in town, it still has the best bar, but, sadly, the once unbelievable food has been greatly diminished. I have eaten here for over 30 years and understand an off night but the last 2-3 years the food... More

C&O is a gem in Charlottesville. The atmosphere is great for a romantic dinner, or for hanging out with friends. The best thing about C&O though has to be visiting on a Tuesday night to hear the Olivarez Trio play their hearts out with gypsy jazz. The bar area has the old world feeling that suits gypsy jazz so well,... More

A group of four of us had dinner next to a warm stove on a cold Charlottesville night. The hostess and wait staff were very attentive, and tried to meet our requests about food sensitivities. We had an excellent meal: dishes involving lobster and sea bass. One order of scallops was not sufficiently hot and was sent back. Otherwise fine.

The food was really good--I had their steak Chinoise which was melt in your mouth delicious. We sat in the lower level bistro since we had not made reservations but could have still had some later on in the night....very accommodating but we were hungry so just took downstairs seating....I would do that again. Not too rowdy or noisy and... More

C&O is easy to pass if you don't know what to look for. The court yard provides great ambiance and the food was spectacular. I ordered fish, cooked perfectly. The waitress allowed me to try a wine or two since they were new to me. Overall lovely experience.

My husband and I were on a week vacation in Virginia. I found C&O online and we decided to search it out. When you walk into the restaurant you will be pleasantly surprised at the way it looks. The meal was great and so was the wine. Expect to pay over $100 for dinner.

My first visit to the C&O was in the late 1970s, and I fell in love with the downstairs bistro, which was intended to offer a limited, budget menu, a bar, televised sports events, an aquarium, tight quarters, and a genuinely Bohemian feel -- but by no means rowdy or too noisy. This ancient and worthwhile tradition is still intact,... More

C&O is in the town center and offers a pleasant, down-home, informal ambiance. Tables are spread well apart so private conversation is possible. Overall, the ambiance here is better than the food. It's not that the food's bad. It's just not prepared that imaginatively. For an appetizer, I ordered smoked trout. Pretty good but undistinguished. For an entree, I took... More

If you love sports bars and chain restaurants read no further. This really nice little spot a block off the main mall is a gem. You can have a conversation without raising your voice! The French style cuisine was wonderful. I had the special which was rabbit wrapped in prosciutto. It was out of this world good. Really good wine,... More

Dinner was delicious! Restaurant has three levels and I am confident there was more going on upstairs and down at the bar than on the main level where we were seated. Restaurant was a little too dim for my taste but Steak Chinoise was amazing. Staff was attentive and menu was varied and unique. Can take free trolley from UVA... More
