If you are an educated palate used to finer dining, this might not be the place for you. But if you're totally fine with super casual and good soul food, this is a fun place to go. GREAT place to be with kids, because frankly nobody will care! It's really worth the value. Go!

We checked the restaurant's ratings and it sounded as if it would be a good place for dinner. We missed it as we drove by - probably we were looking for something different. We parked an walked back based on the street address. We finally realized that the tiny place was the restaurant. There was ONE COUPLE in the tiny... More

We ate lunch, I had pork chops my husband had liver and onions. Both very good reasonably priced and nice size portions.

I have never had a meal of fried chicken, mac and cheese, and coleslaw that left my mouth tasting so good for so long. The sweet potato pie was excellent, and you can't beat the prices. I don't think there's a place here in Seattle that holds a candle to Mel's. If you find yourself in Charlottesville, I highly recommend... More

Great find for fish fry - served every day. We visited on Good Friday and it was the only restaurant that we found with a fish fry. It's small and bordering on a hole in the wall. That and the staff's hospitality makes it a charming stop. Great mac and cheese, corn bread and homemade coleslaw. The chicken seems to... More

We had some terrific food (fried chicken, burger, hot roast beef sandwich) and yummy sides. Sat outside on a beautiful night. Can't beat the price.

We found Mel's on trip advisor and walked to it. I almost kept walking but figured that trip advisor is always pretty accurate. Glad we stopped!! Amazing food. I had the pinto beans, cabbage, fried potatoes, and delicious cornbread. We had a large party and everyone loved their food.

Good regular food for breakfast. Can't beat Mel's company too. Super kind and accommodating. A person in our party just had foot surgery and he sat her in the perfect spot so she wouldn't be bumped by others and was very attentive to her needs. Great food and extraordinary service.

Mel's Cafe was delicious, my hamburger reminded me of my Dad and how he used to make them for our family! I ordered the 3 oz and my husband ordered the 5 oz, delicious! We also ordered the french fries and onion rings and both tasted fresh. Next time we plan to try the ribs and/or fried chicken. Great place... More

I saw this place on trip advisor. When we arrived - I was a little leary. Its a small spot but let me tell you - the FOOD WAS GREAT!! It was obviously a family owned operation. All homemade and delicious!
