The historic experience is what you'll enjoy; however, our "server" acted as if she was having a bad day. She was very abrupt, and seemed as if she didn't want to be at work. The food was average, but the history of the place is great.

We took a leisurely trip to Charlottesville, VA and decided to have lunch at Michie Tavern. What a great experience! The food was very good, the atmosphere authentic and the service was excellent! We ate till we were full: fried chicken, roasted chicken, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, green beans, stewed tomatoes and coleslaw. The vegetable soup was very good! Too... More

We stopped at Michie's Tavern after visiting Monticello. The atmosphere was really quaint, with a cozy wood-burning fireplace. Lunch was a relatively small buffet, with fried chicken, baked chicken, and pulled pork for main dishes. Other options included cole slaw, beets, stewed tomatoes, black eyed peas, green beans, mashed potatoes, soup, biscuits, and corn bread. Service was almost "too" good... More

The Tavern serves its meals buffet style. Menu is fried chicken, baked chicken, pulled pork BBQ for the mains. The price point is a little high ($18) plus drinks and dessert if you are so inclined, but the quality is generally good. Atmosphere is simple but nice with fireplaces, exposed beams, etc. They offer many discounts, so plan ahead and... More

Enjoyed lunch with family and walking the grounds. The restaurant has fantastic service. You go through to fill your plate and get a beverage of choice. Any refills on food they deliver to your table! They make sure you have your fill. I highly recommend this historic dining experience. It's very charming!

It was nice that this is a buffet style so you get your food fast. If you want more just ask and the servers and they are quick to get anything you would like. I recommend the fried chicken as it is fantastic. A great easy stop after visiting Monticello.

We had a classic southern buffet. The food was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. The staff was friendly and had their costumes on. In a country with a short history I guess this feels very old and authentic but we were not impressed. The line to get in is long and the price is high for what you... More

We were taking a weekend away in the area and decided we wanted a hearty lunch. This fits the bill and has a classic southern buffet set up. Stewed tomatoes are just like grandma made and the chicken is great.

On our way to James Monroe's Highland (near Jefferson's Monticello also) we stopped in at the Michie Tavern Ordinary for the lunch buffet. The wait staff were in period costumes for the 18th century tavern and helped add to the fun and rustic atmosphere. We enjoyed southern fried chicken, pulled pork and even the stewed tomatoes. our rustic table (with... More
