Every time I travel from my Wisconsin home to The Monroe Institute in Faber, Virginia, I start and end my journey at Basic Necessities in Nellysford, Virginia. In Nelson County, not far from the Rockfish River (of The Walton's TV show fame; I swear you can hear John Boy), this joint is such an elegant surprise. Daily homemade soups created... More

We had pininis and wine with dessert. It was as good as dinner. The chips were good. The wine selection is extensive.

This unique smaller Restaurant is filled with wine and all the accessories that go with it. Also some imported olive oils and breads. The tables and chairs and booths are all so eclectic. They are all different. I personally like the booth on the left when I go there. The menu ranges from panni's to salads like spring greens and... More

We (a couple) had dinner at this small, charming bistro on a Saturday evening. Excellent food very reasonably priced. Blues guitarist was an added treat. Definitely recommend.

Having lived in France, I found the food to be very authentic--the "French" toast, quiche, and salads. Wonderful bread and excellent cappucino. We went for Sunday brunch which was a prix fixe of $16 and well worth it. The harp music was relaxing and appropriate for the audience. We even had my 6-month old granddaughter with us, and found the... More

Loved brunch on the back patio with a live harpist. French toast and French eggs were delicious as was the chocolate praline cake. Owners and staff are very pleasant. We walked in on Sunday but they suggested that it is best to make reservations for brunch.

Very quaint, small, dinner spot with fresh food well prepared. Friendly service and great wine. Wonderful ambience and on Fri and Sat nights they have a local guitarist which adds to the atmosphere.

This wonderful find is a restaurant, wine shop, and deli all in one, but they are very good at all three. The small dining room fills up fast, so make reservations. The food is freshly sourced and French inspired, and everything we have tried has been delicious, with satisfying but not overwhelming portions. The soups and sandwiches at lunch are... More

We enjoyed a pleasant Sunday brunch in the cozy room with a fireplace. We were the only guests and I imagine it might be noisy if it were full. The brunch included good coffee and fresh fruit with creme fraiche. The frittata was delicious; the salmon and avocado on bagel was tasty but the Bodo bagel was not fresh. Service... More

Came for a quick bite! Loved it. We had bagels and lox. The prices were affordable. They stop serving at 10:30 so come before then or have lunch. Delightful wine and cheese shop as well. Eclectic decor. Super cute place for a bite to eat.
