A party of seven family members on a 12hr ride from NJ to TN needed a quick stop for lunch. We found Southern Kitchen. It was very reasonable, the service was OK and the food was good too. More importantly, the place was very busy and it was lunchtime on a Friday. That's what drew us, the crowded parking lot.... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and I am so glad they did. Great local country ham - wonderful, perfectly cooked steak. We even came back and hour and a half later to try their desserts. The coconut meringue pie was perfection!

My family ate at this place after visiting the two New Market museums. We enjoyed the Southern menu selection. Most of us had the fried chicken which was the days special. We ordered a piece of Lemon Meringue pie. It was delicious. It had about 2 inches of meringue on top.

The food was ok, the environment was very warm and friendly. The prices seemed a little high comparatively.

They accommodated our group of 20+ people easily. We were seated at two tables and got our food at about the exact same time... no easy Feat! The food was excellent and I think we ordered just about everything on the Menu! Lol The fried chicken was so tender and moist... best fried chicken I have ever Had! We also... More

This restaurant has been in business since 1955. The fried chicken, fried chicken livers, and beef liver were very good. Prices are reasonable. There is a great variety of food offered.

Fast, Friendly and attentive service. A great variety of breakfast and other choices. Even tried the fried chicken for Sunday breakfast. One of the best fried chickens ever! Iconic building in a great small town.

Going to Luray at the beginning of May is a mistake. With the exception of the caverns not much touristy is open. This is especially true of places to eat. Unless you are a big fan of fast food the pickings are scarce. The only true restaurant we found open was in New Market, over a mountain and a 19... More

Peanut soup was something new to us--and we liked it. Other than that...um, no. Seems everyone but me loves this place. Maybe their fans are the locals who don't know any better. Burger was tasteless, fries were mediocre, grilled ham and cheese looked so sad and tiny AND one side was burned. Owner told us how wonderful the place was... More
