Having ordered from El Rey #1 at Chesapeake & Bayview for several years, I was very excited to see them open a full sized, sit down restaurant on Little Creek Road. The food is very good, though a bit on the greasy side.... May not be for everyone. I particularly love the toasty tortillas. The only real drawback was awkward... More

I needed to kill some time while my car speakers were being installed across the street. Went to Walmart, Sam's club, blah blah.. so I decided to grab some lunch. This place was clean, the staff was friendly and professional. If I didn't have to go back to work , I would have tried the beverage menu.

The food at this smallish restaurant was very good and the portions were large. Great value for the money spent. My daughter had the tacos and my wife had a burrito. Both were excellent. I had the Cuban Torta pictured in this review. It had hot dogs, egg, beef, pork, jalapeños, cheese on a huge bun along with a generous... More

The Tidewater area has lots of "Mexican" restaurants, but take it from this California Mexican food snob, they're not Mexican. Not so with El Rey Numero Dos, they serve the most authentic Mexican food here. Hint: "White sauce" is NOT Mexican! So my criteria for real Mexican are: Carnitas, chili rellenos, and tamales - all traditional Mexican dishes you'd have... More

I was impressed by the chips and salsa. The chips were thick but obviously homemade and warm. The salsa was also warm, which was odd, and tasted like tomato soup but I liked it. Service was great. We had a sweet but soft spoken waitress. Dinner was sooo disappointing though. I always order chimichangas because they are my favorite. I... More

Not the most festive Mexican place, more like a hole in the wall but it is decent. First time I went I thought the food was amazing. Second time, very poor. I got a Texas Burrito last week and it was good. So in my three stops, I would say this place is average.

My wife and I ate lunch at El Rey 2 last Sunday, May 3, 2015. Upon entering we were politely greeted and asked if we were eating in or ordering take out, and then told we could pick any seat. They have booths on both sides of the seating area with tables in the center. We sat at a very... More

I can usually find something good at any restaurant, but not here. We ordered soft drinks while perusing the extensive menu but didn't get any chips and salsa until we asked for it. The chips were too thick and the red sauce tasted like tomato soup with hot sauce in it. No white sauce at all. My flautas came with... More

After hanging a living room ceiling for a friend, my wife and I went with him to El Rey #2. This was a Sunday, for lunch. He recommended and we both ordered the #31 burrito combo plate. I had the beef, and my wife had the chicken. The combo come with refried beans and rice. Our service was good and... More
