Enjoyed our lunch immensely! Great view, too. Place was clean (not 'sticky' like some places...know what I mean?) Bring cash, though. No plastic accepted.

I’ve eaten at just about every fish & chip place along the Avalon side of Newfoundland & this place has the lightest, freshest & flakiest fish I’ve ever eaten to date. Add the chips, dressing & gravy for a classical Newfoundland style fish & chips....The view of the bay is gorgeous so sit outside if you can. Be aware that they only take cash & it is a bit pricey so don’t be caught shortMore

I have had Fish and Chips here several years ago and it was very good however not was under different management. What I had there recently was poorly prepared and presented. The chips looked and tasted like they had been cooked several times; the fish...was thin pieces oily batter and tasteless. This place is also not very clean and is definitely overrated.More

Always a good feed! Friendly staff: a father&son & the crew are outstanding in serving up delicious fish and the service is authentic and friendly!! They always consistently serve up mouth watering freshness all cuddled in a light batter. Fries with gravy and dressing has...to show up on your supper plate too!More

My family and I visited here for lunch one day. They were busy, and rightfully so. The food was hot and delicious and the portions were big! The batter on the fish was light and crispy, the fish was cooked perfectly and flakey, and the...fries were great! The kids cod bites were the perfect size for my preschooler, who ate every bite!More

Come prepared with cash (restaurant doesn't accept credit card). I highly recommend this place. Fair quantity and fresh fish, not too greasy. All tables have the view on the ocean. 20 min away from St John's, it's worth it!

A family of five came on a beautiful sunny day. The place was quite busy for lunch. The restaurant was clean. The server was constantly cleaning the tables and taking away dirty dishes from guests. The food was large portions. The fish and chips was...great. A nice light batter and lots of French fries. They only take cash however there is an ATM there if you need money. Great view of the ocean.More

During COVID this restaurant's take out does not disappoint (I think at this time they are only doing take-out) but I'm not absolutely sure on that ! Yes they only take cash...but I think this is to keep costs lower ..and it is at most...a very minor inconvenience for the otherwise fantastic service and food. Today I had the glorious treat of Fin and Feathers with Fries and Gravy. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection...and I am fussy.....especially since I only allow myself this kind of treat very very sporadically.!!! Its really hard to get that chicken and fish combo just right (Bay girl here and I know my chicken and fish lol) but this restaurant has it all figured out!!. We ate in our truck overlooking Bell Island... what more could anyone possibly need lol!!More

Restaurant takes cash only (sounds suspicious). Only choice after placing order is to use their atm and pay extra banking fees on top of already over priced food. Left a bad taste...

Two concerns here. They do not take credit or interac and we were left with the option of withdrawal from one of those machines. That didn't work. We ended up having to leave but I noticed the tables had greasy fingertips all over them. Not...even washed during covid. I wouldn't have eaten there after seeing that. Disgusting.More

I live in this region and now prefer By the Beach over the other 2 choices available locally. One competitor has gone from terrific to greasy. The other has batter that is also greasy. Fish is always fresh at By the Beach

During this time it's difficult to know what local mom and pop restaurants are open. Took a drive to Portugal Cove and to my surprise By The Beach was open. Was greeted by the only worker(owner I'm guessing), we chatted about the situation and I...placed my order and waited outside in my car. 15-20 minutes later fish and chips were ready. Food was excellent, we sat in our car and ate take out. After all this is said and done please support your local businesses.More

Excellent view of Bell island and delicious fish and chips! The server was pretty friendly, the food was very good ( one of the best we have tried during our trip) the restaurant it’s relatively small and have to be careful opening the door because...it’s pretty windy out there. The have chicken and chips and other options like burgers and onion rings or mozzarella sticks. Definitely worth the road trip there.More
