This was the best meal we had while in Virginia Beach. It is a little non-descript restaurant tucked away a little below street level in the Mayflower hotel. However, when you walk in, you are transported to Instanbul Turkey. The music seems to be turkish as well as the surroundings. And, everything on the menu is Mediterranean and many are... More

We came in late, close to closing time. Anastacia was our server and greeted us kindly. She was friendly and attentive. The food was AMAZING. We weren't even starving or anything, we just came in for something small and ended up stuffing our faces. We had the veal stuffed with feta and spinach--heavenly! The greek salad was good. The gyro... More

We were greeted by our hostess/waitress who seemed dazed. She brought our appetizer after our entree. Apparently she forgot them. The cucumber dill soup was delicious as was feta spinach pie was tasty and the knefe was tasty. The salad was basic and the kabob was typical. Place was decent but wouldn't run back soon.

When we were greeted with a sigh as if we were interrupting her day, we should have known what to expect. After she picked up the straw that she had dropped on the floor and handed it to our daughter, we probably should have left. On a hot June afternoon we were hoping for a lunch of bright, Mediterranean flavors.... More

We had a delicious lunch here today. I had a platter of various hors d'ouerve which included stuffed grape leaves, homemade hummus, wonderful eggplant spread, olives and a few other fabulous items to spread on the best fresh, homemade pita bread you ever tasted! My companion had the kefta with rice pilaf. The meat was spicy and delicious. If you... More

We happened upon this little restaurant by chance but have returned by choice! This time we shared a meza appetizer which is easily enough for four to share. The dips are all excellent and the pita is fresh baked. For dinner I had the lamb with portobello mushrooms and artichokes with a side of the most delicious sautéed spinach. All... More

Over the years, I have met many outstanding chefs around the world. At the Mayflower Cafe, I met my first Master Chef of the Ottoman Cuisine. If I were much younger, I would volunteer to work under the chef for a year with no compensation. Over a two night span, my table of 7 ordered about 40 different dishes. Each... More

I have lived in Virginia Beach for 20 years. My rule of thumb is to avoid eating anywhere within a block of the ocean. This place is a happy exception. It's small and unpretentious. The food, however, is far better than what you will find up and down the oceanfront.

My wife and I had just reached Virginia Beach. We were staying at the Ocean beach club right across the street. We were looking for a HALAL (dietary meat restriction for muslims similar to Kosher) restaurant. Luckily we found one right across. Not only was it halal, but the food was good too. I got a steak sandwich and my... More

The name of this restaurant comes from the hotel it's located in. Personally I think they'd do better to change the name to indicate a Mediterranean theme. The meal we had here was the best meal we had while vacationing in VA Beach. It's a small, casual restaurant but the food is fresh and delicious! Would highly recommend you check... More
