The cocktails and salads were quite good. But the west African spices stew was horrible. The meat was way way over cooked and hard. The sauce was quite tasteless compared to real west African cooking. Wouldn't go back again.

As a Virginian and history buff, we have been visiting Williamsburg frequently for the past 50 years and always try to eat at one of the Taverns during our visit. Recently, we were there for the George Washington's Ball and all the taverns were closed for our week's stay except for Shield"s. We ate there last during Christmas 2015. We... More

The food was good and the service good as well, but the selections were limited. When we visit Williamsburg again, will probably eat somewhere else.

The menu options are based on dishes made from recipes and with spices brought to the area from other countries. The dishes were all flavorful but may not be to everyone's tastes. I would definitely check out the menu before you go to make sure there is something that appeals to you. As is typical at the taverns in Colonial... More

Colonial setting, very attentive service and strolling period entertainers. Crayfish soup is to do for! Flank steak entrée not far behind. One of the highlights of Colonial Wmsbg.

The good part - The service was friendly and polite. The rolls were fine. The wine was pleasant enough and the pour was generous. The bad parts - The food is awful. I had "butter chicken." The chicken was tough and dry and coated with a thick and unpleasant tasting curry paste. The accompanying rice was...boring. If a bit of... More

Wonderful place, delicious food, great service. Our waiter was totally immersed in his role as a tavern waiter and explained customs and practices of the 1700's. Very interesting and informative. A wandering musician goes from room to room singing period songs. Loved the Dr.'s Delight drink a MUST TRY!! Try the candlelit dining room in the basement!!

Really it should be 4.5. Big portions. Food was well prepared and well presented. Service was very good. Menu was weird and most foods were spicy. A musician went from room to room playing hurdy gurdy, guitar, and grand serpent. Nice touch!

Be sure to make an advanced reservation for dinner for this is a popular place to eat. The food is great tasting. Good drinks also. A musician came through each room to entertain us. From drinks to soup to main course to dessert, the food is wonderful!

Took our kids here for dinner. It has a very colonial feel to it, with food reminiscent of colonial times. The atmosphere is quaint, with candles on the tables and roaming entertainers playing the lute. Service was great. Something for everyone in the family, as well as a well-deserved cocktail for parents who have managed their little ones all day.... More
